FC Barcelona management is not happy with the performance of current coach Tata Martino and reportedly want Brendon Rodgers of Liverpool to replace the Argentine.
A report in Sunday People has claimed today that Barca management is quite impressed with the performance levels of Liverpool under the Irishman and see him as the perfect match for their style of play.
Rodgers has done a remarkable job during his 20 months at Anfield but enters the final year of his three-season deal this summer.
But so farAi??the Reds’Ai??Boston-based owners have been slow to start talks on a fresh agreement. Rodgers is relaxed about the lack of action on a new deal, but Liverpool are playing a dangerous game in leaving talks until the season is over.
It is thought that the Liverpool boss is one of the front-runners to replace Martino, should he leave at the end of the season, but Rodgers was quick to dismiss any rumours of his departure.
He said: “I am happy here. It is an incredible club ai??i?? I love being the manager here.
“I haven’t got an agent so I don’t have someone pumping stories out there about me not being happy. There will be plenty of time, come the end of the season, to sit down and talk about a new deal.”
Meanwhile, Spanish daily Marca has also run a front page story today, claiming that Martino is almost certain to leave after the current campaign. Gerardo Martino was as clear as mud when commenting on certain key issues on the social network, causing quite a stir among the BarAi??a fans in particular and football enthusiasts in general. One of his most alarming remarks was regarding the club’s plans for the coming season: “We are not doing anything related with next year”, he assured. This is worrying if we consider the team’s present situation and the players that will be leaving at the end of the season.
This, however, was not the only controversial issue. In a press conference that became by degrees tenser, he also talked about Neymar’s form and his players’ motivation. “I’m not going to talk about all the rumours over possible singings because there aren’t any signings. The moment that any deal is made and I’m not a part of it, I won’t be seated here. I’m not involved in any of the things that have been published; the players have no reason to think beyond this season. What concerns me is to have the best season possible with these players”, the manager said.
Another problem for Martino is to get Neymar back on form. The starlet is having a hard time off the pitch as well as on it, with all the scandal about his signing and his recent break-up with his girlfriend. “We will have to look for the reasons in his non-footballing life”, the manager observed.
