Radamel Falcao is set to join Manchester United on a one-year loan deal
The Colombia striker has been pushing for a move away from Monaco, and Real Madrid were the favourites to snap up the 28 year-old. Manchester City and Arsenal were the other two clubs interested in signing the player, as was reported in the last 48 hours. Manchester City decided against pursuing a deal as they could not make space in their squad for the Colombian.
BBC have now confirmed that the striker will be joining the Red Devils in the coming season. They report:Ai??“A loan deal is agreed forAi??Radamel Falcao to join Manchester United,Ai??subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed.”
Falcao has scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for Monaco.Ai??Monaco Ai??had set his value at A?55million, but United have paid a loan fee of around A?12m, as well as picking up the 28-year-old striker’s A?200,000-a-week wages.
Real Madrid had publicly been the striker’s preferred destination and rumours of a move to last season’s European champions grew further on Saturday when he tweeted: “Dream come true #halamadrid”. Later,Ai??he deleted the tweet and further clarified through the social media outlet that the first tweet was fake, saying: “I have to refute a story about a tweet I have not done and that is a photo montage.”
Speculation over his future grew when he was dropped from Monaco’s squad shortly before Saturday’s draw against Lille, after being expected to start.
He will become Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal’s fifth summer signing, after defenders Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, midfielder Ander Herrera, and attacker Angel Di Maria.
Meanwhile Javier Hernandez is possibly on the way out of Old Trafford with a stunning move to Real Madrid. Los Blancos have refused to comment on the deal but it looks very close to happening. It is not certain whether it will be on loan or permanent, but it is understood that United wantAi??Real to pay Hernandez’s A?90,000-a-week wages for the duration of the proposed season-long loan deal, in case the switch is temporary.
Danny Welbeck may be another striker to leave the club. The England man is being linked with Tottenham and Arsenal, as well as a number of other Premier League clubs – he could be available for a A?5m fee.
