Chelsea have joined the race to sign Queens Park Rangers striker, presently on loan to Necastle United, Loic Remy.
The 27-year-old Queen Park Rangers attacker is currently on loan from the Championship side for the season at Newcastle United, and has impressed in his second season in the Premier League with 13 goals in 23 appearances and has attracted a lot of positive interest from top sides. The Frenchman was being targeted by Arsenal and has continuously been linked with the North London club. New reports suggest that Jose Mourinho, who is currently unhappy with his strikers has targeted the 27 year old as a recruitment for the summer.
Arsenal and Chelsea both lack in the attacking department and this weakness has been tipped by pundits to cost them the Premier League title, as Manchester City, the title favorites and Liverpool, the dark horses in the race, both have more force in that department. Chelsea have the ageing Eto’o, who is undoubtedly still performing but is not at his former lethal best (also is only contracted for one season), the constantly under-par Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, who has also not been his former self, in the strike force. Arsenal rely on Olivier Giroud for goals and the ex-Montpellier striker has not consistent with the goal supply. Both clubs have depended more on their attacking midfielders for the goals.
Chelsea have still not replaced Didier Drogba and need a player of his caliber, someone who will give the club attacking prowess and is dependable- a long-term solution. The Blues could turn to Remy as an option as they look for more goals next season, and less dependence on the solid back-line.
Remy has appeared 23 times for Newcastle in the league this season and has scored 13 times and assisted twice. Remy, who is often likened to Thierry Henry, has a lot of common features with the Arsenal legend. He, like Henry, is very fast, drifts to the flanks and uses the width of the pitch before using his speed to cut inside to devastating effect. One place where he is probably better than Henry is his ability in the air. The 27 year old is not the tallest, but has great ability to find the back of the net with his head.
