Chelsea FC’s skipper John Terry has hailed and compared Nemanja Matic to former Chelsea FC midfielder Claude Makelele. Terry, insisted that Chelsea FC’s strength in depth is perhaps the reason for their success and ofcourse Nemanja Matic. Terry, was not afraid to express his views on how the team missed Matic against Newcastle United, when Chelsea FC suffered their first defeat of the Premier League campaign. Nemanja Matic, resigned for Chelsea FC in January and has been a blessing for the Blues. The midfield enforcer has cherished life under Jose Mouinho and has dished out impressive performances. His ability to pick a pass alongwith his brilliant reading of the game, has worked wonders for Chelsea FC. Perhaps, that is why John Terry, hailed Nemanja Matic as a pivotal part of the Chelsea FC team.
‘You look at the exciting days when the manager first came, and Claude Makelele was the master in that position where Matic plays and Matic is very close to that.’ said Terry.
‘We missed him at Newcastle.’
Although Chelsea FC, suffered a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United, the Blues got back to winning ways, when they defeated Hull City. With Stoke City next, Chelsea FC will hope that their impressive form continues to shine.
‘They probably don’t come any tougher than Stoke away. But we are doing well and it’s important we go into games doing the dogged stuff, putting our bodies on the line.
‘The strength in depth of the squad (is the difference’). This season we are winning games that maybe we drew last season.
‘We speak among ourselves about regrouping and going again.’
Given Manchester City won against Hull City and reduced Chelsea FC’s lead, the Blues will hope to grab all three points and continue their quest toward the Premier League trophy. With the busy Christmas period ahead, Chelsea FC could make as many as three changes. Mourinho, has already expressed that he is unfazed by fringe players’ frustration and although Mourinho could rotate his squad against Stoke City, fringe players might not be once again called on to arms.
One noticeable change that Chelsea FC would witness is in the goalkeeping department. Petr Cech, is expected to start ahead of Thiabut Courtois. The Belgian suffered an injury recently and given the hectic schedule ahead, Mourinho would look to rest his number one goalkeeeper.
“The team is more important than themselves, and the club (is).’ said Mourinho, when inquired about the lack of first team opportunities to fringe players.
