Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have agreed for a 20 million pounds transfer fee for the Brazilian’s services atAi??Stamford Bridge
Ai??After the successful transfer of Diego Costa, Chelsea have now bagged Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis. The clubs’ official website confirmed the news which makes Luis the third Atletico player to have been transferred to Stamford Bridge this season after Diego Costa and on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is almost certainly expected to return to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s official website stated: “Chelsea can confirm an agreement has been reached with AtlAi??tico Madrid for the transfer of Filipe LuAi??s, the move is subject to the 28-year-old agreeing personal terms.”
Atletico Madrid also confirmed the news on their website which said, “AtlAi??tico Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement to transfer the rights of Filipe LuAi??s, pending a medical with the English club. The Brazilian player had told our club at the end of the campaign his willingness to join the London side”
Chelsea have been on a look-out to find a replacement of veteran left back Ashley Cole, who confirmed the news of joining Serie A team Roma this week, and with Luis’s inclusion in the squad Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has now spent around 82 million pounds for the three big transfers to the club which includes Cesc Fabregas(32M), Diego Costa(30M) and now Luis at 20 million.
Filipe Luis, 28, has been impressive with his consistent performances for Atletico Madrid last season. The left back played a pivotal role in helping his team to lift the La Liga title. Though he was not selected in Brazil’s World Cup squad, as Real Madrid’s Marcelo was chosen over him, many believed that he deserved to be playing for Brazil in the World Cup.
Mourinho is looking to strengthen the clubs back line furthermore as he is now looking to acquire Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. Though Real’s manager Ancelotti is reluctant to let go the talented Frenchman, the kind of rampant mode Chelsea is in right now, they might seal this deal as well.
Ashley Cole slams English Players as being ‘Home Comforts’
The ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star slammed the English players as ‘overprotective’ and claimed that they are afraid of playing in the other major European leagues.
Cole said, Ai??”English players are probably afraid to come abroad, they’re in a comfort zone in England.”
English players have been under the scanner since their poor performance in the recently concluded World Cup and Cole, who was left out of the World Cup squad brought all his frustration out by slamming the English players.
