Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin has claimed that Thibaut Courtois wants to remain with the Spanish champions next season.
Atletico Madrid lost the Champions League final 4-1 last night to local rivals Real Madrid, which ends on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s stay in the Spanish capital on a somewhat gloomy note.
The goalkeeper has been on loan from Premier League side Chelsea for three seasons now. The Beligian has been regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world right now and has been tipped to be an even bigger star in the future. He has earned theAi??Ricardo Zamora Trophy twice during his three years at Madrid.
However, his future remains uncertain as both Chelsea and Atletico want his services. Chelsea have Petr Cech as their number one goalkeeper and Courtois is a player who would not will not play second fiddle. Therefore, the future of the Belgian international has been speculated upon, but no conclusion has been made so far. He has made it clear that he has immense respect for Cech but he will not be content with being receded to the bench:
“If I move somewhere, I will play. At my age, the most important thing for me, and what I want to do, is to play.Ai??Petr is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he won the Golden Glove in the Premier League this season. I have a lot of respect for him.Ai??I have two years [left on my] contract with Chelsea, so we will see what they decide.”
Speaking after the Champions League defeat Atletico CEO Gil Marin said:
“Courtois wants to stay and he’s told the directors that.Ai??But it all depends on him and Chelsea have an injured goalkeeper.”
Courtois also remarked last week, that he felt no emotional connection with Chelsea
ai???The fans and my team-mates have not seen me as a player being on loan there,ai??? he told Sport-Bild. ai???I have no emotional attachment to Chelsea. They did sign me for ai??i??9m in 2011 but since then I have only been in London for my medical.

Reports in theAi??Daily MailAi??now claim that Petr Cech will remain the first choice goalkeeper for Chelsea in the upcoming season but Courtois will be installed as the Blue’s number one from 2015-16.
There is a lot of speculation at the time and nothing decisive has been agreed upon as only statements have been made back and forth. Now that the season has come to an end, a decision would be taken, and the future of the young Belgian would get some clarity.
