James Pallotta reaffirmed that the AS Roma midfielder is not for sale and outlined his desire is to retain the best players in his squad.
Reports from England continue to suggest that the 24-year-old Dutch international will head to Old Trafford in January or at the end of this season but the Roma president clearly warned Strootmanai??i??s rumored move will not materialize.
“Manchester United wants Strootman? It is just not happening.”,Pallotta told BBC Sport at the Leaders in Football Conference.
“I have told the papers that they should stop wasting paper. We donai??i??t have any interest in selling Kevin.”
The American owner also denied suggestions that Roma had set a price-tag of A?75m for Strootman.
“Obviously as business people when people call us and say ‘we want your player’ you are going to listen to them. You have to do that, that is the business side. That doesn’t mean you are going to make a decision that [an offer of] A?75m, bang you hit the bid. That is not the way it is going to work, it is not the way it does work with us.”
“Does money talk? For others, maybe. Our view is that we want to put a great team out there, but we are not saying ‘we have to make a ton of money’. Our goal across the board is stability.”
Roma director Walter Sabatini recently hit out at ai???lavishai??i?? transfer rumors surrounding Kevin Strootman.
He was quoted as saying by Sky Sports, “There is no issue with Strootman, who is one of our important players and who we miss very much. He will return soon and he is not on the market – we will give him the time needed to recover to being the same as before.”
Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni also claimed that the Dutch midfielder will not be sold. “We are proud to have Strootman in our squad and he is not for sale.”, Baldissoni told Sky Sport Italia.
Strootman moved to AS Roma last summer from PSV Eindhoven and made 29 appearances for the club before suffering a knee injury in March. He is expected to be back on the field next month.
