Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle for the signature of Swiss youngster Fabian Schar in the January transfer window.
Arsenal were in the market for long term replacement of Thomas Vermaelen during the summer transfer window but the Gunners failed to make any new signing and Arsene Wenger has set his sights on FC Baselai??i??s central defender Fabian Schar. However, Arsenal will have to fight with Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Schar.
Meanwhile, reports coming from England have also confirmed the interest of Arsenal and Tottenham in Schar. The Daily Star claims that: ai???Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is short of defenders and is weighing up a cut-price deal for the 22-year-old. Schar is valued at A?10m by Basel but is out of contract next summer and likely to be available for much less in January. Thomas Vermaelen left Arsenal for FC Barcelona during the summer and Arsene Wenger was forced to look elsewhere in the market for a new defender. The management of Arsenal is planning a move for at least one central defender in January and Schar is their preferred target. The Basel youngster has only one year left to his contract and is available at cut price.
Fabian Schar, 22, started his career at FC Will and moved to FC Basel in the summer of 2012. Schar has made 48 appearances for the Swiss club till date and is an undisputed starter for them since past few months. Schar has also represented Switzerland at the international level. He has 9 international caps to his name.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will have to beat the competition of Tottenham if they want to succeed in the signature of the player. Tottenhamai??i??s Franco Baldini has already scouted Schar on many occasions and he has given a green signal to the club management to make a move for the player. Apart from Arsenal and Tottenham, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the player.
