Sporting boss Marco Silva has revealed that midfielder William Carvalho could make a move to the Premier League in January.
According to reports, Silva has confirmed that the 22-year-old midfielder is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs.
“William is a target for English teams, but I want him to play his game,” he told reporters.
“He’s not playing at the same level as last season because last season he was a surprise, but he’s improving.
“William has many offers. Let’s wait until January.”
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be interested in acquiring the services of the Portuguese midfielder with Arsenal said to have tried to sign him in the summer. However, the Gunnersai??i?? bid was then rejected by Sporting as the club did not reach an agreement with the transfer fee on offer.
The player himself has admitted that a move to the Premier League or La Liga will happen “sooner or later”, with Manchester United and Chelsea also credited with an interest in his services.
Carvalho, 22, featured for Portugal in the World Cup in Brazil, and Sporting values the midfielder at A?28 million but would be willing to negotiate around lowering the figure.
The midfielder is sure to attract interest in the January transfer window as both Arsenal and Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout of a defensive midfielder.
Arsenal would be more than happy to acquire his services as Arsene Wenger has faced many fitness issues this season. Players like Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Diaby are injury prone and at least one of their names is found in the injury list on a regular basis. The likes of Arteta and Flamini have also failed to perform at the level expected from them and thus a commanding figure like Carvalho in the midfield is just what Arsenal need at the moment.
On the other hand, Manchester United are another club who have faced a lot of injury woes. However, the Red Devils need a solid centre-back more than a defensive midfielder. With Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and Michael Carrick on a good run of form, it will be difficult for a youngster like Carvalho to break into the Manchester United starting eleven.
The Portuguese midfielder is a great prospect for the future and his availability will mean that big clubs in Europe will fight hammer and tong for the 22-year oldai??i??s signature.
