Tottenham Hotspur closed in on fourth spot on the table with a comfortable away win against Swansea City.
This was Tottenhamai??i??s fifth consecutive away win in the Premier League, something which they havenai??i??t managed to achieve for the past 54 years. Spurs have been brilliant on the road this season and have suffered only two defeats away from home ai??i?? against Arsenal and Manchester City. This was a crucial win as it sees them close down their gap with Liverpool, who dropped points at home against Aston Villa. Only a superior goal difference keeps Liverpool above Spurs at the moment.
Meanwhile, Swansea City continued their journey towards the bottom of the table and the Wales club are seemingly in a big crisis at the moment. Michael Laudrupai??i??s side have lost five of their last six Premier League matches and they are winless in their last eight. Swansea are now just three pointsd ahead of Cardiff City, who currently occupy the bottom of the table and it seems they will be involved in what is turning out to be a massive scrap for survival this season.
Emmanuel Adebayor provided the lead to Tottenham in the first half as he met Eriksenai??i??s wicked cross with a header at the far post and this goal was no less than what the away team deserved for their performance in the first half. Spurs doubled their lead at the start of the second half as Chico scored an own goal with an attempt to clear the ball.
Adebayor completed his brace in the 71st minute of the game as Tottenham took Swansea apart with a well-organized counter attack. Danny Rose made his run down the left and then picked out the former Arsenal striker in the box, who finished the move calmly. Swansea did manage to get one back in the end as Wilfried Bony, who was undoubtedly their best player on the pitch, scored in the 78th minute. But it was too little, too late.
Tim Sherwood was delighted with the performance and the result and reserved special praise for Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been a changed man since he took over as the manager. He has now scored six goals in his last eight games in all competitions, along with two assists.
“It’s great. It’s obviously great for the football club and it’s great for Ade himself.
“He’s flying at the moment and he’s enjoying his football. He’s playing with a smile on his face and he’s finding the back of the net.
“I thought we played well. Even though Swansea were having some chances from distance in the first period and they knocked it around, I thought we ironed it out in the end and got to grips with it.
“They do play a different way, they are brave on the ball, they do pass when marked and credit to them for that but we always thought that we could catch them.
“Even when they were having a lot of possession, I always thought we were the most dangerous side and it was just a matter of time before it clicked.
