Gervinho on the verge of joining Roma
Several sources have reported that there’s already an agreement between Arsenal and Roma for the transfer of Gervinho for a fee of around 7 million euros, while Gazetta has reported that Roma and the player have agreed to personal terms as well, with Gervinho set to earn 2.7 millions a year in Italy. The Ivorian forward has been progressively losing his space at Arsenal and will be looking forward to a new challenge to revamp his career, with the Serie A seemingly fitting the bill. Roma, on the other hand, are eager to boost their squad and significantly improve their 6th place Serie A finish from last season and the signing of Gervinho would be a great start in that regard, adding quality and depth up front.
Should the deal materialize, Gervinho will join the likes of Osvaldo, Lamela and the eternal Totti among others, adding depth to an already quite impressive attacking lineup. Having never managed to thrive at Arsenal in the way he was initially expected to, this seems to be a deal that would benefit all parties involved, with Arsenal getting a very decent sum for Gervinho, who in turns gets an opportunity to revamp his career in a different team and league, where he is likely to have more space than he did in London.
This deal is quite likely to materialize until the end of this week.
Manchester United Making a Final Push for Cesc Fabregas
It has been one of the sagas of this summer, with Barcelona reportedly having already rejected two offers from Manchester United for their star midfielder Cesc Fabregas. But the English champions haven’t lost hope and according to several reports are about to line up a final 40 million bid for Fabregas. Unfortunately for David Moyes’s side, there seems to be no interest from either Barcelona or the player in such a move, so odds are this final offer will be rejected as well and United will have to find a new target.
Having joined Barcelona two summers ago, Fabregas has been steadily improving and with Thiago’s departure, Xavi’s inevitable aging and Cesc himself coming into his peak, he is expected to take a more and more central role in the club, with new manager Martino annoucing that Cesc is part of his plans for the new season. Fabregas would be a great signing for United and make their midfield significantly more potent, but despite the constant rumours this seems like a highly unlikely move especially given that Barcelona is Cesc’s boyhood club and how much he wanted to join them in the first place. This saga should know its end quite soon, with Fabregas staying in Barcelona for the 2013/2014 season.
