With little confidence in the inconsistent John Obi Mikel or on the aging legs of Michael Essien, the Blues’ gaffer has turned his attention to a player who was crucial to his success back at his old workplace. His ball playing ability has been vital to Real Madrid over the past two seasons. The German has a success rate of 72 % in making crucial tackles while his aerial domination gives him 57 % in winning duels. Moreover, an 81 % accuracy in his ball distribution will be a major asset to any side.

Fulham Return with yet another offer
Aston Villa frontman , Darren Bent is a much wanted man this summer as English clubs Fulham and Newcastle battle to get him. With Newcastle finally making their first signing in the form of Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis, Fulham find themselves in pole position to get the signature of the England international provided they are ready to meet the demands of Aston Villa. The London side came out with their third bid for the striker of A?4.75million this week but reports suggest this attempt of theirs will also fall on deaf ears. Villa are reportedly holding out for A?6 Million for a player they paid A?24 M two seasons back.
Fulham are in the market looking for a striker to support or act as a back-up to their lead man Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian scored 15 goals and notched up 3 assists last season while his strike partner and ex-Wigan man Hugo Rodallega failed to impress patrons at the Craven Cottage scoring only 3 goals and playing games mostly off the bench. The inclusion of Darren Bent will add much needed arsenal to Fulham attack and manager Martin Jol has singled out the Villa man to be that addition.
Liverpool hunt for a striker
The Anfield club are believed to be interested in Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa who scored 20 goals in the 2012-2013 season. Brendon Rodgers has already brought in a wealth of talent in defender Kolo Toure, attacking midfielders Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto and goal keeper Simon Mignolet. But the ongoing transfer saga of front man Luis Suarez is causing some concerns. The acquisition of Diego Costa will go a long way in easing some of those.
Costa will also be an important addition to the side even if Suarez does decide to stay at Mersyside. With Sturridge, Costa and Suarez, Liverpool should have an attack that matches their domestic rivals and help them challenge for a top four spot.
