Manchester United and Chelsea FC played out a stale-mate as neither of them did enough to win this tactical battle at Old Trafford.
After days of build-up, the match failed to live up to the expectations, at least for the neutrals, as it ended in a goalless draw. The team news for the both the clubs had some surprise in store. Wayne Rooney started for Manchester United, in place of Ryan Giggs. It was a bold move by David Moyes as he chose to field him against a team which is highly interested in signing him ai??i?? it was a statement of intent.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho also had a surprise or two in store as he sent out a starting eleven without a proper striker in the line-up. Torres and Lukaku started from the bench as Andre Schurrle started in a forward role. It was fluid attack with Hazard drifting in centrally and Oscar providing the creativity. But it didnai??i??t work on the pitch as Chelsea failed to create any opening of substantial danger.
Manchester United lacked the cutting edge upfront as well, although Wayne Rooney was perhaps the best attacking player on the pitch. Chelseaai??i??s defence was well organised and dealt with most of the dangers.
Jose Mourinho seemed satisfied with the draw and said that neither of the team deserved to lose or win this game. He also praised the tactical acumen of his young players and hopes that this experience will make them better footballers.
‘I think it’s a fair point. Nobody deserved to lose, nobody did enough or nobody was better than the opponent to deserve a clear victory, so I think it’s a fair point. For us after home victories to come to the champions and in their first match at home to get the point, I think it’s fine, it’s positive.
‘I played here with four kids under 22 in attack, for some of them the first time at Old Trafford. They played against the champions, against Ferdinand, against Vidic, against Evra. My kids behaved very well. They couldn’t produce enough to win the game, we didn’t have as many situations as we expected to, we missed some easy passes but the boys were fantastic. The kids were fantastic. The whole generation was brilliant. It’s a very good quality for my team.

David Moyes on the other hand was convinced that there was only one team playing for a victory.
“If anybody created the chances it was us.
“I picked an attacking team that was trying to score. We had boys who score goals and gave it a go.
“Maybe we lacked a real good pass through or a really top cross that might just have made the difference tonight or it might have been an individual moment of brilliance that we have seen in the past.” ai??i?? The Manchester United manager told the press.
The former Everton manager was also quick to point out that United were unlucky not to get a penalty after Frank Lampard appeared to have handled the ball inside the box.
“There was a shout for a penalty.
“The referee had a good game tonight but just afterwards he gave handball against Oscar for a lesser handball in the middle of the pitch.
“We could do with having it defined what is going to be given as a handball.” ai??i?? Moyes added.

Wayne Rooney looked the most likely of all the attackers on the pitch to break the deadlock. All the three shots on target for Manchester United were taken by the former Everton striker. He created a golden opportunity for Welbeck to score in the second half, but the Englishman failed to convert.
