Both the side came into this game on the back of big defeats in the league ai??i?? Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby and Manchester City against Chelsea. So both these sides had a point to prove in this game and in the end it took 120 minutes to separate them.
Newcastle United started the match on the front foot and took the game to Manchester City. The home dominated possession in the first half and looked the most likeliest to open the scoring. They even had the ball at the back of the net, but Cisseai??i??s effort from close range was ruled out for offside. Newcastle United failed to capitalize on their good spell in the first 45 minutes, something which would hurt them later. City also received an early blow in the first half as Stevan Jovetic had to be replaced by Negredo due to an injury.
Manchester City came out with much more intent in the second half.Ai?? The arrival of David Silva also provided them with a bit of a lift in the attacking half. But like Newcastle United in the first half, Manchester City failed to score in the second half, despite being the better side. The match went into extra-time, and it seemed hard to separate both these sides at that point.
Then in the 99th minute Alvaro Negredo finally provided Manchester City with the after some brilliant workd by Dzeko to set him up. Dzeko took on the defender on the left and his low cross was in the perfect place for Negredo to apply the finishing touch. The away side then doubled their lead just six minutes later. This time the goal was created by Milner and Dzeko rounded up the goalkeeper to get his deserved goal. Despite fighting hard for most of the game, Newcastle United lost this match in the dying moments as Manchester Cityai??i??s superior quality on the pitch made the difference.
After all the talks about Joe Hart and his dismal form, Manchester City heaped praise on Costel Pantilimon, who kept a clean sheet against Newcastle and made few crucial saves.
“Pantilimon has always had my trust and that of the team.
“He is a good player, that’s why he is here. He may not have played too much because Joe Hart plays last year and this year but I trust him to play.
“I think for him and the team to keep a clean sheet today was important.” ai??i?? The Manchester City manager said.
On being asked about whether Pantilimon can replace Joe Hart in the starting line-up for the upcoming league match against Norwich, Pellegrini said he will take a call on this today.
“He is a very good goalkeeper and he normally plays in the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup.
“This was a very important match for him. But I will start to think about the game against Norwich on Thursday. Today I was just thinking about winning this match.
“I think that we will talk tomorrow (about the team selection). One goalkeeper can play but the other will have our full support. We will think about it.” ai??i?? He added.

The 27-year-old has seemingly lost his place in the starting line-up following some disappointing performances at the start of this season and Pellegrini currently prefers Negredo ahead of him. But against Newcastle United Dzeko worked hard, held up the ball wonderfully and was incisive in build-up play. He set up the opening goal for Negredo in extra-time and scored the second to seal the match.
