Portuguese winger Nani has finally signed a contract extension after a summer of speculations and rumours.
Manchester United fans have endured a frustrating transfer window, where the club has failed to sign most of their transfer targets, except for Marouane Fellaini on the deadline day. But despite this, they would have been glad about the fact that the club was able to retain Wayne Rooney and now Luis Nani.
The Portuguese winger and the club initially failed to reach an agreement over a new contract and the Nani was also offered to a lot of clubs. But his high demands meant most of the clubs refused to negotiate with United. He was linked with Juventus, Anzhi, Monaco and PSG, but none of the speculations failed to materialize in the transfer window.
The club has now announced that Nani has signed a new five-year contract extension and manager David Moyes has expressed his delight at having been able to secure his long term future.
“I’m really pleased Nani has re-signed for the next five years. He has great ability and experience beyond his 26 years.
“I’ve been impressed with his approach to training and look forward to working with him in the coming seasons.” ai??i?? The Manchester United manager told the press.
Nani made only seven starts in the league last season under Alex Ferguson and it was clear that the former United manager didnai??i??t fancy him due to his inconsistency. He also suffered from an injury during the second half of the season and all these raised question marks about his future at the club. But it seems David Moyes is willing to give him another opportunity to prove himself and earn a place in the starting eleven. Nani made his first appearance in the league this season when he came on as a substitute in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool.
Nani has thanked David Moyes for showing faith in him and he hopes to repay that faith by helping the team to compete for honours this season.

Manchester City suffer from another injury blow to their defence
Manchester Cityai??i??s new signing Martin Demichelis has suffered a knee injury in training and could be possibly be out for six weeks.
The Argentine international was signed last week from Spanish side Atletico Madrid, after City were struggling in defence following injuries to Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards. Manuel Pellegrini needed an experience back-up for Kompany, who can fill in at the back till the Belgium international returns to full fitness. But it is almost tragic that the man who was signed to provide that back-up has picked up an injury even before playing a match for his new club, that can potentially keep him out six weeks.
Cityai??i??s defence conceded a lot of goals in the preseason and they have already suffered a loss at Cardiff in the Premier League after conceding three goals in that game. In the match against Cardiff Manuel Pellegrini was forced to play Javi Garcia in defence as Nastasic was yet to return to full fitness. Although the Serbian international has returned to starting line-up in the 2-0 victory over Hull City last weekend, City donai??i??t have a fit center-back on the bench in case they need one.
Demichelisai??i?? injury means Pellegrini will once again have to fall back on Javi Garcia or young Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata as his back up options. Micah Richards could still be two weeks away from gaining full match fitness. With Champions League group stages matches about to start, City have a congested fixture list and will play five matches in the last two weeks of this month. Pellegrini can only hope that Lescott and Nastasic can remain fit during this period.
