Liverpool FC have reportedly renewed their interest in Werder Bremen Winger Eljero Elia.
Eljero Elia was once one of the hottest properties in Europe, during his time at Hamburg. But his career seemed to have stagnated after he moved to Juventus back in 2011, as he made only four appearances in the league for the Italian club. Elia handed over a transfer request in the next summer and was snapped up by Werder Bremen. But even though he made 22 appearances for the German side in Bundesliga, he failed to make the impact expected of him. The Dutchman has previously complained about Werder Bremenai??i??s style of play and how he is finding it difficult to adjust his game accordingly ai??i?? it seemed as if the team was set-up very defensively and Elia wasnai??i??t getting the service he thrives upon. The season ended with further disappointment, when back in April he along with his team-mate Marko Arnautovic was banned for the rest of the season by the club after being caught over speeding on the road.
Eliaai??i??s future has been up for speculation once again and he was recently linked with Spartak Moscow and Greek side PAOK Saloniki. But the clubai??i??s General Manager, Thomas Eichin, has recently rubbished all the rumours and stated Bremen havenai??i??t received any offer regarding Elia. The Dutchman on his part has also said that he would look to stay at Bremen next season and is willing to earn back the faith of the supporters. New Bremen manager Robin Dutt has also recently revealed his desire to provide Elia and Arnautovic another chance to prove themselves for the club next season. But it is fair to say that if Bremen are able to land a replacement, they would be willing to sell Elia if an official bid comes in for him.
According to latest reports, Liverpool are looking to make a move for Elia in a cut-price deal. The Merseyside club has scouted him since his FC Twente and Hamburg days. In fact he was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, before he chose to join Juventus in 2011. Brendan Rodgers has already completed the signing of Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Kolo Toure and his looking add further depth to his squad, as Liverpool strive to win back their top-four status next season. It is believed that Liverpool are willing to offer ai??i??5 million to the German club in the deal for the Dutch winger.
Although the club is yet to make any official move for Elia as of now, signing the erratic and unpredictable Dutchman can be a risk for Liverpool, although he will come at a very small amount of transfer fee.
