Chelsea Midfielder Frank Lampard Signs A Contract Extension

Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new one-year contract with the London club, ending speculations surrounding his future.

The 34-year-oldai??i??s future at the club was up for speculation for most part of this season. His contract was about to expire at the end of this season and reports suggested that Chelsea were unwilling to offer him a new deal. A lot of European and MLS clubs were monitoring his contract situation at the club as he could leave for free at the end of this season. LA Galaxy, Monaco and even Manchester United were linked with a move for the England international.

Despite all these speculations, Lampard always maintained that he wanted to end his career at Stamford Bridge. Even at this age, he still remains one of the key members of the Chelsea squad and is currently their leading scorer in the Premier League. In fact, his brace in Chelseaai??i??s match against Aston Villa not only secured their tip four status for this season, but it also helped him topple Bobby Tamblingai??i??s record and Frank Lampard is now the all-time leading goal scorer for the club.

Now after winning the Europa league (after defeating Benfica in the final), Chelsea have now announced that the club has extended Lampardai??i??s current contract for one more season. In an statement released at the clubai??i??s official website Chief Executive Ron Gourlay has expressed his delighted at having finally securing Lampardai??i??s future at the club.

‘Frank has been an important player for Chelsea Football Club for a long time and has played a significant part in the club’s success.

‘We have been talking to him since the end of last year and our discussions have been entirely positive throughout. We are delighted we are now announcing an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until 2014.’ ai??i?? Ron Gourlay said.

Frank Lampard thanked Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich along with the fans and the players for their fantastic support. The Englishman was delighted at the thought of being able to help out the club in achieving further success in the future.
