Chelsea And Tottenham To Vie For Wesley Sneijder

Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder in the summer.

Sneijderai??i??s career has been on the wane ever since Inter won the treble under Jose Mourinho. The 29-year-old, who was once considered to be amongst the best footballers in the planet, after his fantastic display for both Inter and the Dutch national team, seemed to have lost his mojo in recent past. A contract dispute at Inter saw him being ignored from first team selection for quite a while and Sneijder became a forgotten man. But back in January however, Sneijder was signed by Turkish giants Galatasaray and he is back on the footballing map once again ai??i?? in fact recently he has drawn interests from both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, who are reportedly preparing a bid for him.

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has recently stated that the Turkish club is prepared to sell the Dutchman if they get the right offer.

“I have been following the rumours about Sneijder, but we have not received an offer for him.

“If an offer in the region of ai??i??15m (A?12.75m) comes in, we might decide to sell him though.” ai??i?? Unal Aysal was quoted in press.

It is believed that newly appointed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is eager to sign Sneijder, who was a key component in his Inter side which won the famous treble back in the 2009-10 season. Sneijder has revealed in a recent interview that he has a wonderful relationship with Mourinho and hasnai??i??t ruled out a move to Chelsea.

“I have a great relationship with Jose Mourinho.

“We have kept in contact since our days at Inter Milan. Does Chelsea need a playmaker? I’m not sure. In football you can never be certain of what will happen next but I’m very happy in Turkey.” ai??i?? The midfielder said.

Louis van Gaal, coach of the Dutch national team, has also urged Sneijder to join the London side. He said that it would be easier for him to monitor his performances if he moves to England, under his ai???friendai??i?? Jose Mourinho.

“It would be much easier for me to keep an eye on his progress if he were to make the move to Chelsea.

“I could be at Chelsea within an hour from the Netherlands, and [new Chelsea manager Jose] Mourinho is a friend of mine.” ai??i?? The Holland coach told the press.

But Chelsea are likely to face competition for Tottenham, who are looking to build on their progress last season and are expected to have a busy summer in the transfer market. Tottenham are yet to replace Luka Modric with a natural play-maker and Sneijder suits the bill perfectly. The London side have also lost out on their initial target Joao Moutinho, who signed for Monaco. But, if Chelsea do decide to make a move, it will be tough for Tottenham to compete with them financially.
