Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyamaai??i??s former coach has confirmed that Arsenal FC are interested in signing the Kenyan international.
The 21-year-old is currently one of the hottest properties in Europe. Wanyama, who has already made over 20 appearances for his national side, has been monitored by a host of big clubs across Europe. Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for him through last season, and now Arsenal have seemingly joined the list.
Victor Wanyama impressed everyone with his performances in the Champions League this season and has been one of the most influential members of the double winning squad. Although he did commit his future to Celtic recently, there has been a lot of speculation regarding his future at the club. Now his former coach, Jean-Marie Abeels, (who trained him during his early days) has confirmed that Arsenal have a long standing interest in him and has already contacted the Scottish club and Wanyamaai??i??s parents.
“Victor’s father, Noah, calls me almost every week and he tells me Arsenal’s interest is big,” he said. “Wenger spoke to Celtic around a month ago and Victor’s father and his mother, Mildred, says he would prefer to go there before any other club.
“I will be speaking to his parents again in a week’s time and Victor also. But I already know that Arsenal have a big interest in the player.
“Everything can change in a minute. It takes just one phone call. It’s all a bit of a show at the moment. It’s all a game. It’s all about money. But Victor wants to go to a club where he will play.
“He is still young and I have told him he needs to be careful about when he takes the really big step. I think myself that it’s better that he has a step in between before going to the really big level.” ai??i?? Abeels was quoted in press.
It will be tough for Celtic to hold onto their prized asset in the summer and it would mostly depend when Wanyama feels that he is prepared to next the next big leap in his career. As far as Arsenal are concerned, Wanyama is exactly the type of midfielder that Arsenal lack at the moment. He is brilliant at shielding the defence and can be the perfect partner for Arteta in the pivot. Wanyama is very versatile and can also play as a center-back if required.
Aaron Ramsey is certainly very excited about the possibility of having the 21-year-old at the Emirates. The Welshman said that he would welcome the move, if Arsenal manage to sign him in the summer.
