Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC and Wolfsburg are reportedly lining up a move for Bayern Munich holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
The 25-year-old has been extremely consistent since joining Bayern from Hoffenheim back in 2011. But last season, after the arrival of Spanish midfielder Javi Martinez, he lost his place in the starting eleven and was mostly restricted to a role on the bench. Next season, with Pep Guardiola at the helm, question marks have been raised about the future of Gustavo at the German club. Bayern have recently bought another midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, which means Gustavo will now find it even harder to break into the first team with any regularity ai??i?? barring injuries or suspensions. For a footballer of his quality and someone who is approaching the prime of his career, regular first team football is of utmost importance, and the Brazilian might be forced to look elsewhere in search of more game time.
There will be no shortage of suitors for Gustavo, in a day and age where world class defensive midfielders are a rare commodity. Arsenal are thinking about a move for Gustavo, while Chelsea are monitoring his situation as well. It is believed that the reigning Europa League champions are lining up Gustavo as a direct replacement for Mikel in the squad. The Nigerian international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, after facing an uncertain future at the club under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Interestingly Chelsea have also been linked with Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi and are believed to be close in securing a move for him. But it seems unlikely that Jose Mourinho will look to add both De Rossi and Gustavo to the squad. In all likelihood Gustavo seems like a backup option for Chelsea if they fail with a move for De Rossi.
But according to recent reports in Germany, Wolfsburg have joined the race for Gustavoai??i??s signature and their director Klaus Allof has confirmed those rumours stating that they have contacted the reigning European champions regarding the sale of the Brazilian international.

Mirror are now reporting and various other media outlets in England are suggesting that Chelsea are also preparing a A?15million bid for the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal, who are also in desperate need of adding a new a defensive midfielder in the squad, also finally make a move for him. This three way battle will certainly inflate Gustavoai??i??s price, although he would be a wonderful addition for either of the clubs.
