Serie A Weekend Review ai??i?? Episode 23 : AC Milan Take Top Spot As Internazionale, Roma Slump To Shock Defeats

Two more matches were cancelled in Serie A because of frozen pitches. Table toppers Juventus missed their second match for the same reason in 2012 while Fiorentinaai??i??s away trip to Parma was also shelved for now. Juveai??i??s cancelled match gave a golden chance to defending champions AC Milan to take complete control and climb to the pole position in the League. However, their task was not easy by any means as they travelled to Udine to face a team which had not lost a single home match this season.

Udinese began strongly as Toto Di Natale put the home team ahead. AC Milan was generously helped by Samir Handanovicai??i??s uncharacteristic weak save as Maxi Lopez scored an easy goal to draw them level. Few minutes before the end of regulation time El Shaarawy settled the match in Milanai??i??s favor. This was a big victory for a depleted Milan side who are looking at a kinder set of fixtures than their immediate title rivals.

The joy of AC Milan fans increased two folds on Sunday when arch-rivals Internazionale were embarrassed on their home turf by basement boys Novara. Caraccioloai??i??s superb strike four minutes before half time ensured that Novara did an unlikely double over the Nerazzuri. Novaraai??i??s record makes Interai??i??s loss even harder to understand. The modest club from Piedmont has won just three matches in Serie A so far and two of them have come against Inter. This was Novaraai??i??s first away win of the season and incredibly, their first away win in more than half a century. An away loss to Novara cost Gasperini his job in first half of the season and it remains to be seen if Claudio Ranieri suffers the same fate. Also, Inter has now lost 3 of the last 4 matches that they have played.

After taking points off Juventus in Turin and defeating Napoli in Coppa Italia, Siena continued their impressive form by defeating AS Roma 1-0. With this victory Siena move five points clear of the relegation zone. Napoli took advantage of Roma and Inter slipping up as they moved close to European spots with a 2-0 victory over Chievo. Another notable result from the week was Catania getting their first win of 2012 by demolishing in-form Genoa 4-0.

The Albanian #1 was a tower of strength against Inter as he made several gilt-edged saves to lead his troubled team to a historic victory. His top class save during injury time ensured that Novara left San Siro with all three points.

Lazio, once in running for the Scudetto had lost their form in last few rounds and lost two of the four matches. Their form didnai??i??t show any signs of improvement against lowly Cesena as goals from Adrian Mutu and Vincenzo Iaquinta made sure that the away team went into lemon break with a 2-0 lead. To make things even worse, Lazio had lost Abdoulay Konko in first half. The Aquile came back with all guns blazing in second half as goals from Hernanes, Lulic and Kozak in the space of ten second half minutes picked up three welcome points for the blue half of Rome.
