John Terry loves to play with controversy. It is his eternal companion. Against Barcelona, he not only kicked Sanchez on the back, but saw himself on the verge of kicking his own team out of the competition. On 26th April, Queens Park Rangers’ players have been spared a decision on whether they would like to shake hands with John Terry before the Sunday kick off against Chelsea after the Premier League intervened and decided to discard the gesture because of the legal problems associated with the Chelsea captainai??i??s impending trial.
QPR defender Anton Ferdinand was advised not to shake hands with the ex- England captain, who has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence after he allegedly made racist comments in a Barclays Premier League match at Loftus Road last October. Why on earth would a team present a guard of honour for another team whose captain is due to face the magistrate in a few months time, primarily on the strength of their complaints? It leaves us wondering whether the rituals of honour has become something to be bandied about with reckless abandon.
