Brazilian club Santos are interested in signing Chelsea outcast Florent Malouda, but the move is dependent on a Chelsea pay-off.
Malouda is yet make an appearance for Chelsea this season; that is if you donai??i??t consider the pre-season matches against PSG, MLS All-Star and Milan. The midfielder has slowly fallen out of favour at Chelsea since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti. The Frenchman was one the most important member of the squad that won the double under Ancelottli during the 2009-10 season. But things have gone downhill since the Italian manager was fired.
Malouda started in only 11 Premier League games last season under Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo. Chelsea were prepared to offload Malouda at the start of this season, but were unable to find any suitable buyer. Malouda wanted to stay at the club and his high wage was also a deterrent for all the interested parties.
This season Malouda was excluded from the Champions League squad and was asked to train with the U-21 squad, as Chelsea subtly asked the French international to find a new club.
Malouda has attracted interest from Vasco Da Gama and his former club Lyon, but Brazilian club Santos seems to be the front runner in the race for his signature. Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has reportedly held talks with Chelsea, who are willing to sell the midfielder cheaply. But the stumbling block in this deal is Maloudaai??i??s current wage of A?80,000-per-week.
The Brazilian club is relying on Chelsea to pay him off according to reports in the media. Paying off Malouda seems to be a better option at the moment considering he would go for free next season. Selling him in January might mean that the club will pocket a transfer fee, which would eventually offset whatever pay-off they lay out for the Frenchman. It is certainly better than paying him till the end of this season and then letting go for free. A move to Santos should ideally suit both parties, since he has already played his last match in a Chelsea jersey.
