The Switzerland international, a regular in the Leverkusen side, is believed to have attracted interest from Wigan, Sunderland and Newcastle.
THT Verdict: The talented Swiss attacking all-rounder has remained the fulcrum of Werkself’s attack for some time now. In the past he has been linked with a move to Arsenal, impressing the Gunners boss with a number of good performances. But having lost a quintessential player of Vidal’s calibre, it is unlikely that Leverkusen will let go off their star wingman, more so because this season they’ll be playing in the Champions League.
Roberto Mancini insists Adam Johnson will not be allowed to leave Manchester City, but plans to hold talks with Shaun Wright-Phillips over his future at the club.
THT Verdict: As expected, Mancini has clearly stated that he wouldn’t let Johnson leave, even though the player is not central to his plans and the manager wants to buy another winger. Furthermore, even if a couple of weeks down the line the stance changes, City will do everything in their power not to entertain a bid by Chelsea, who certainly needs 1-2 quality wide players. Johnson is one of them. However, it wouldn’t hurt the West London club to make a formal inquiry, or even a bid perhaps, to test City’s resolve to hold on to a player, despite looking for another winger. As of now, Johnson to Chelsea looks unlikely.
Versatile Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury spent much of last season on loan at Norwich City and now several national newspapers are suggesting that Lansbury will make the move to Carrow Road full time in a deal worth £1.5m
THT Verdict: Henri Lansbury’s future looks quite uncertain after not being selected for the Emirates Cup yesterday. Though, it remains to be seen if he is selected today for the game against Henry’s men. This was the same stage where Wilshere was used in the previous season to show that he is ready for the big league. Lansbury is a terrific talent and it would be a huge loss for Arsene if he lets the man go.
Tottenham try to preempt Arsenal with £22m bid for Valencia’s Juan Mata
THT Verdict: Even after the match last night, there was a huge smile on Arsene’s face when asked about Mata, since the Frenchman does his deals in a very secretive way, it is difficult to find out if Arsenal are sure to sign the man from Valencia. Even if Harry’s bid is more than Arsene’s, Mata would most likely join the Gunners just because of the “Champions League factor”.
