Serie A Review – Round 6:Juventus Climbs To The Top As Milanese Clubs Continue To Struggle

The woefully run of both the clubs from Lombardy continued as week 6 of the Serie A saw both Inter and Milan suffer embarrassing losses from the hands of Napoli and Juventus respectively.

This win helped Udinese to maintain their undefeated record of the season and now stand at a second place on the league table. Meanwhile, Klose snatched a late winner for Lazio against Fiorentina in the 84^th minute. Earlier Cerci had put the Viola in the lead within first ten minutes before HernanesAi??restored parity. The club from Florence was the better of the two sides for the bulk of the match but a late strike from the German dashed all the hopes of the home fans.

An almost absent midfield haunted Milan for the entire length of the match as the rossoneri were outplayed in almost every department on the field. Vucinic, Vidal, Pirlo were playing with authority in the Juventus Arena and Milan had no answer to them. Marchisio scored a brace in the last five minutes of the match, which included a howler from Abbiati to hand Juventus a much deserved victory. All the hopes of picking up an equalizer for Milan was blown to pieces after Kevin Baoteng picked up a stupid second yellow in the 90^th minute, which reduced Milan to ten men, after Marchisio has given the lead to the hosts in the 87^th minute.

Novara v Catania

A six goal game of cat and mouse played at Stadio Silvio Piola was easily the most entertaining match over the weekend in the Serie A. The visitors Catania snatched a point from the jaws of defeat after Gomez slotted in an injury time equalizer to send entire Catania bench in frenzy. Legrottaglie’sAi??14th minute strike gave the Sicilian outfit the lead but it was in the second half that all hell broke lose.

Novara were gifted a penalty in the 50^th minute after Delvecchioai??i??s handed the ball and Rigoni wasted no time in bringing back the home side on level terms. Francesco Lodiai??i??s trademark free kick gave the lead back to the visitors six minutes after the hosts had equalized. Later Novaraai??i??s substitute Jeda scored five minutes from time to give the home side a lead first time in the match but their celebrations were short-lived as Gomez struck for the Sicilians in the first minute of injury time which would turn out to be the last goal of the match.

Cristain Abbiati (Milan)

Almost every Milan fan believes that the bald Italian deserves a call up to the national team and considering his performance over the last one year not many would question them. In fact Abbiati was the sole reason why Milan managed to keep a clean sheet for almost ninety minutes against Juventus in Turin on Sunday evening but then the howler which he committed in the 92^nd minute erased all his good work for the night.Ai?? After displaying exceptional reflexive saves on either side of the halves, how he allowed an average shot from Marchisio to stroll from his grasp and then from between his legs into his Ai??goal is beyond logic.

Sebastian Giovinco (Parma)

A Juventus youth product Giovinco set the pitch on fire in his sideai??i??s 3-1 victory over a listless Genoa. The Italy international scored the first two goals for his side and then set up the third to hand Genoa their second straight defeat of the season. Atom ant as he is fondly called by his teammates netted the first one at the stroke of half an hour and then earned a penalty which he easily converted before the break to provide an excellent platform for his side for the second half. Five minutes into the second period his inch perfect cross started of the move which allowed his captain Morrone to score the third for the home side.

Ai??Flop of the Week

Gianluca Rocchi referee (Inter Milan v Napoli)

It’s sad that for two weeks running now a referee has featured in this section. His decision to hand Joel Obi his second yellow and Napoli a penalty in the 43rd minute for a foul committed outside the box completely changed the face of the match. Hamsik failed to covert the penalty but CampagnaroAi??scored from the rebound to give Napoli the lead. Inter failed to recover after going a man down and Napoli took full advantage of it in the second half and slotted in their second and third to put the result beyond any doubt.
