Italian Serie A Review – Round 14 : Milan’s Good Run Continues As Internazionale And Roma Struggle

As Milan and Juventus continued their dominating run, Internazionale and Roma fell further in the League table. TheHardTackle presents the weekend action.

Milan extends their winning run as Cavani leads Napoli against Lecce

Milan continued their winning run as they defeated Genoa at home. Goals from Nocerino and Ibrahimovic settled the match. The win took Milan to second place in the table and put them in a better frame of mind for the upcoming Champions League midweek fixture.

Elsewhere, Cavani-inspired Napoli heaped more misery on the whipping boys of Serie A, Lecce. Goals from Lavezzi and Dzemaili and a superb brace from Cavani were enough for the home side to earn all three points. Murial and Corvia scored two for the visiting team as Lecce were condemned to the bottle of the table.

Inter lose at home, while Ibarbo stuns Catania with a marvelous goal

More misery continued for the blue half of Milan as Internazionale lost at home against Udinese. Isla scored the only goal of the game which only heaped more pressure on Ranieri. This was Inter’s sixth defeat in the League and it goes without saying that they might be out of Europe next time around if their performances do not drastically improve in the second half of the season. The defining moment of the game was definitely the penalty miss of Pazzini, who slipped while taking it.

An otherwise dull affair between Cagliari and Catania turned interesting after Ibarbo scored what is surely one of the contenders of goal of the season. Dribbling past the Catania defense, Ibarbo scored into an empty net.

A goal-less draw for Chievo as Juventus win at home

Chievo and Atalanta played out a goal-less draw which left Chievo one point ahead of Atalanta. Juventus hosted relegation threatened Cesena and were efficient enough to dispatch the visitors with relative ease. Goals from Marchisio and Vidal meant that Juventus now leads the table by 2 points.

A horror show for Roma as Bologna gather three crucial points

Fiorentina cruised over a struggling Roma as goals from Jovetic, Gamberini and Silva effectively ended whatever was left of the legendary Romans. The nextAi?? match might be Enriqueai??i??s last match as Roma manager. Burdisso, Kjaer are out with injuries. Bojan, Gago, Juan got red cards against Fiorentina and Osvaldo is serving a three match ban. Heinze was spotted elbowing Gamberini by TV cameras, and hence can be suspended. If Roma lose to Juve, Enrique might get the boot. It’s ironical because results aren’t achieved in a jiffy and the Romans themselves don’t seem to know that Rome wasn’t built in a day. The match was a fitting tribute to the former Fiorentina player Socrates, who passed away recently.

Elsewhere, a Di Vaio goal settled the match between Bologna and Siena. The result took Bologna on level points with Siena, who are ahead in the League table by virtue of a superior goal-difference.

Palermo held as Lazio consolidate fourth spot

Parma were held to a goal-less draw at home against Palermo. Parma had as many as 24 shots but still failed to find the back of the net. Dominating for most parts of the match, the closest Parma came were long-range efforts.

In the final match of the weekend, Lazio took on Novara and their 3-0 win at home consolidated their 4th place in the League table. A superb brace from Rocchi settled the match as both the teams shared almost equal possession.
