Pakir Ali has not been able to make his mark on the I-League as his Chirag Kerala side is just one point adrift of the drop zone. The side from Kochi hoarded a much needed point at home in the last round against defending champions Salgaocar to take their tally to mere six points from eight games this season. Anil Kumar, who rejoined his old side on loan from Dempo made his presence felt scoring a late goal to clinch a point for the Kerala side in successive I-League games. Now the south Indian side welcome Goan Reds to their turf in a round nine fixture. Chirag United will be boosted by the return of Charles Dzsiah at the centre of defense, as he makes a return after serving the suspension. Chirag United would be looking to challenge the might of the former champions and rectify their bad start to the season, which includes a maiden opening day victory.

Chirag United expected line up: Sharath Kuniyil(GK) , Noushad K, Charles,Boakye, Jagdeep, Vineeth CK, Asif K, Ajayan K , S.Saleel, Anil Kumar, David Sunday.

High spirited Churchill Brothers make a short trip to Kerala to take on the hosts Chirag United on Wednesday. Churchill Brothers cut down the lead at the top of the table to just four after Manuel Gomesai??i?? side got the better of runaway leaders Dempo in the last round in a crucial derby at Fatorda. Churchill Brothers are evidently bolstered by the return of Brazilian playmaker Beto in the middle of the park, as well as Steven Dias, Didika and Gourmangi Singh’s return from Indiaai??i??s SAFF cup winning squad.

After going down to Mohun Bagan at Kolkata in the fifth round, the Goan Reds have fought back pretty well to cement the second place in the table, garnering two victories out of three matches. Churchill Brothers would be looking to stay hot on Dempo heels as the squad would be definitely planning for another victory. Australian defender Antun Kovacic has certainly settled down pretty well in the Indian conditions and is demonstrating pivotal performances for his team. He would be our man to watch out as his team look to snatch all three points in Kerala.

Churchill BrothersAi??expected line up: Felix Dsousa(GK), Denzil, Gourmangi, Antun, Jerry, Jagpreet , Beto, Bineesh, Lenny, Henri, Opara.

Defending champions are slotted at tenth in the league table after a disappointing draw in their last encounter against Chirag United in Kerala. Marcus Mascarenhas fired the Goans into lead, but the Karim Bencharifa mentored sideai??i??s complacent defending in the dying minutes of the match, saw the keralites clinch a valuable point, denying the Goans a much needed victory. Now the champions welcome Pune FC at Fatorda Stadium on Thursday. Reinforcements arrive in the form of Rocus Lamare and Karanjit Singh from the SAFF cup winning squad. Rino Anto is once again expected to start for the Goans on the right flank, who played his first match after a long absence due to injury, and Ryuji SueokaAi??is expected to start this match, after being peculiarly rested in the last game. Salgaocar has been undefeated in their last four league matches, but number of draws would be a disturbing fact for Karim Bencharifa. Salgaocar would be looking to leap frog their opponents in this round as a win at PJN would see the side climb up to ninth atleast.

Salgaocar expected line-up: Karanjit Singh(GK), Rino Anto, K. Meitei, Sabrosa, Biswajit, Marcus, Tomba, Rocus Lamare, Barbosa, Ryuji Sueoka, Chidi.

The Red Lizards are positioned at eighth after eight round of matches. The last round witnessed a clinical brace from Mandjou Keita as Pune FC showcased a spectacular fight back to clinch their third triumph of the season. Derrick Pereiraai??i??s side now travels to Goa for their round nine fixture against Salgaocar, looking to make a hat trick of victories. Pune FC will be full strengthAi??though they still have India number one Subrata Pal missing due to injury. The Pune side hasnai??i??t won a away game all this season, and as they stand on top of the defending champs, this would be an apt time to break the ice in Goa for the Pune boys.

Pune FC expected line-up: Abhra Mondal(GK), Srikanth, Anas, Chika Wali, Gurjinder, Karma T, Lester, S. Venkatesh, Arata , Subash, Keita.

Team Laal-Holud takes on the table toppers in the clash of titans on Thursday at Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata. Trevor Morganai??i??s side was in the news, amid Indiaai??i??s SAFF cup excitement, for striker Alan Gowai??i??s speculated exit from the club. Morgan would hope that his team focus on this big match and try to make most of the home conditions. After their maiden setback this season in the last round, Dempo will come out all guns blazing. Aussie Tolgey Ozbey scored the only goal in subtle thrashing of Sporting Club De Goa in Goa in the last round, taking the Red-&-Gold army to third in the table, just one point off Churchill Brothers. A victory would ensure a tight table at the top, with the second round of fixtures arriving soon post Christmas.

Mehtab Hussain too played some part of the match, replacing Sanju Pradhan just after the lemon break. He is expected to start the match, oiling the machine. Meanwhile Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Nirmal Chettri return to the squad after a emphatic SAFF cup triumph in the capital.

East Bengal expected line-up: Sandip Nandy (GK), Naoba, Gurwindar, Opara, Nirmal, Sanju, Penn, Mehtab, Vasum, Tolgey, Baljit Sahni.

Armando Colacoai??i??s side tasted their first defeat of the season as their juggernaut was bought to a halt by Churchill Brothers. Purists would debate that some of the key players were missing from the squad as the former champions went down in Goa last time around, but Climax, Subhashish, Mahesh Gawli, Sameer Naik, Anthony, Joachim and Clifford return for this match, as they travel to Kolkata. Dempo would be looking to make amends for the loss and showcase a table topping performance as East Bengal try to unlock their defense at home. Dempo have won all their seven matches, losing the last one, and coach Colaco would be hoping that another victory here brings his disheartened team back on track.

Dempo expected line-up: Subhashish (GK), Mahesh Gawli, Creston,Roy, Samir Naik, Peter, Climax, Clifford, Anthony, Ranty, Abranches.

Sporting Clube De Goa play hosts to the Mumbai based Air India FC at the PJN stadium in Fatorda Goa, in the first match of the I-league post the 2011 SAFF Cup. The Flaming Oranje ai??i??come into this fixture on the back of two successive defeats and would be desperately looking for three points against the pilots in order to keep their momentum going especially after making a promising start in the league. The Goan outfit has played six of their eight league games at home and suffered a loss in just one of them, last week against East Bengal. This week again they are playing at their home and their manager Ekendra Singh would be hoping to carry forward their home form against Air India. In the absence of Mathew Gonsalves, Kieta will have to play out of his skin along with the rest of the backline or else the Goan side might find themselves in a tricky situation. James Moga and Kailo Karpeh will head the attack for the host meanwhile; captain Nnanna will be holding the midfield together.

SC Goa expected line-up: Gerrad Dai??i??Mello(GK), Mathew, Adil, Keita, Kalu, Rovan, Moga, Jovel, Mackroy, Victorino, Rojen.

Lying at ninth spot on the table, Air India has not scored in three out of their last four league matches. Having conceded five goals in their last two matches alone they are left with a negative five goal difference and would love to bring that down on trip of theirs to Goa. Santosh Kashyap has managed his team well this season as many had tipped the pilots to remain near the relegation zone only in this season. But even he knows that the goals have dried up suddenly for them and he wold have to shake up things a little bit before the clash against the Flaming Oranje. Nigerian Henry Ezeh will a pivotal role for them if they want to walk away with three points from this trip of theirs. Prem Kumar is suspended for the visitors and will sit out of their ninth round midweek encounter.

Air India expected line-up: Pawan Kumar(GK), Prem Kumar, Collin, L.Tamba, Bijoy, T.Omi, Kali Alluddin, Rahul, Sandip, Ezeh Henry, Manjit.

Kick off: 15:00 IST : Date- 14th December, 2011

With just one point from first eight rounds, HAL Bangalore are lying at the bottom of the table and this home fixture of theirs against one of the title contenders- Mohun Bagan promises even more misery for the home side. This is their sixth fixture in Bangalore and the fact that they have lost all their five home games will not give them any confidence whatsoever prior to their clash against the mighty Mohun Bagan. They have conceded the most number of goals and their strikers have found the back of the net just five times the league. HAL is starring down the barrel of the gun and unless something drastic happens they will get relegated. The best this Bangalore based side can hope for is a respectable loss against Bagan, because a loss will come is a foregone conclusion, if they can just hold their pride together, one would consider that as an achievement.

HAL expected line-up: P. Pramod, Chandandeep, Adeola, Ramesh, Kenneth, Meetei, Goutam, James, Karthigeyan, Vinod, Hamza.

The Mariners take on the weakest team of the league this year- HAL Bangalore in what can only be termed as a David vs. Goliath encounter of the I-league. With sixteen points Bagan are lying at the fifth spot on the table and this is a great opportunity for them to leapfrog many teams to second position before the big clash between East Bengal and Dempo SC the very next day. Also a number of their players had participated in the 2011 SAFF cup, so a weaker opponent will also provide Banerjee with an opportunity to rest some of his key players. Chhetri who picked up a niggle in the final of the SAFF Cup against Afghanistan will sit out of this clash.

Mohun Bagan expected line-up: Sangram Mukherjee(GK), Surkumar, Kingshuk, Zeleny, Dhanarajan, Nabi, Murali, Gourango, Snehasis, Ashim, Odafa.

Kick off: 18:30 IST : Date- 14th December, 2011

Just four points in eight matches is a giveaway that Pailan Arrows are finding it difficult to play against the big boys of Indian football. They have often been outclassed and outplayed by their opponents this season. Having drawn three of their four home encounters, there is still a ray of hope for Sukhwinder Singhai??i??s young turks as this time around they are playing the hosts to the inform Prayag United. Souvik Ghosh and Fanai will take control of their backline whereas Jibon Singh will string together the passes in the middle of the park for them as Sabeeth will rage a lone war up head in the field.

Pailan Arrows expected line-up: Naveen(GK), Rajiv, Gurtej, Shouvik, Milan, Bikramjeet, Avinabo, Malswamfela, Krisanu, Jibon, Sabeeth.

Prayag United are the only club who are yet to lose in the league and against Pailan Arrows they will be playing a yet another Kolkata Derby. Yakubu has been in sublime touch so far and his partnership with Kiwi Kayne Vincent is bound to trouble the in experienced squad of Pailan Arrows. Prayag have emerged as the dark horses in the race for the I-league title this season and a win over Pailan will only help them to close the gap over leaders Dempo SC.

Prayag United expected line-up: Abhijit Mondal(GK), Chinta, Bello, Arnab, Dipak, Lal Kamal, Denson, Sankar, Tulunga, Yakubu, Joshimar.

[Match Result: Shillong Lajong FC 2-1 Mumbai FC]Ai??

In the first ever I-League encounter to be played on the soil of beautiful North-East state of Assam,Ai??Pradyum Reddyai??i??s Lajong FC is all set to take on Khalid Jamil’s Mumbai FC outfit in a mid-table I-League encounter. Shillong Lajong FC, currently slotted at tenth in the league, garnering meager nine points out of the eight rounds so far.

The side from North-East welcomes the Mumbai side to Guwahati in this roundai??i??s fixture, as The Reds from Meghalaya look to clinch only their third triumph of the season. In the last round, The Reds maintained their unbeaten streak at home when they earned a point, holding former champions Mohun Bagan to a goalless draw at Imphal. Although Lajong had many opportunities to put the match to bed, but the finishing upfront let the team down, which is one aspect Mr. Reddy would be worried about. New recruit Christopher Chizoba is yet to impress the purists’ hearts as he would look to showcase a pivotal performance in this match.

Shillong Lajong expected line-up: Poirei (GK), Subhas, Lalhlimthara, Aibor, Wailadmi, John Menyonger, Lalramluaha , Lalchhuanmawia, James, Cristopher, Tuboi.

Khalid Jamilai??i??s side had to settle for a draw in their last encounter against a young Pailan Arrows at YBK, Kolkata. MFC have lost its way after another promising start to the season, as the side from west coast hovers four points above the relegation zone. Nigerian striker Gbeneme Frieday scored the late solitary goal in Kolkata last week to clinch a valuable point for the yellow brigade. The Mumbai side now makes a long trip to Guwahati to face off against Shillong Lajong. Mumbai FC will miss the services of their captain Peter Siddique for this crucial match, as he is serving an one match ban for consecutive cautions. Dhanachandra Singh is most likely to start the match at the central defense in front of custodian Ishan Debnath.

Mumbai FC expected line-up: Ishan Debnath (GK), Kingsley, Nicholas, Lobo, Malswamkima, Keegan, Dane, Dhanachandra Singh, PC lawlampuia, Frieday, Ebi Sukore.
