Barcelona will reportedly wage a transfer battle to sign Stade Rennais midfielder Lovro Majer, a target for Real Madrid and Arsenal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, some of the most prominent European bigwigs are keen on signing Lovro Majer. Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are among the clubs showing interest in the Stade Rennais midfielder, with the Croat quickly becoming a hot property in the market.
Lovro Majer was a journeyman during his formative years, representing half a dozen clubs in his youth career before graduating from the Lokomotiva Zagreb academy. The 24-year-old went from strength to strength during his three-year stint with Dinamo Zagreb before taking his career to the next level at Stade Rennais.
The Croatian international has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1. And after a superb 2021/22 campaign, Majer has begun the new season strongly, chipping in with a goal and two assists in eight appearances. Majer’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Arsenal among his prospective suitors.
The interest from Barcelona is surprising, considering Xavi Hernandez has a stacked midfield unit at his disposal. It is worth noting that Gavi and Pedri will likely serve Barcelona for over a decade unless their trajectories go south all of a sudden. And with Frenkie de Jong seemingly not going anywhere, it is unclear how Barcelona will accommodate Majer.
Nonetheless, Barcelona might rival Real Madrid and Arsenal in the race to sign the 24-year-old. Speaking of Real Madrid, Los Blancos might be looking at the Croatian international as a long-term successor for Luka Modric. The Rennes midfielder has interestingly drawn comparisons with Modric, and replacing the veteran stalwart at Real Madrid might be a superb opportunity.
As for Arsenal, the Gunners signed Fabio Vieira in the summer transfer window as a potential long-term solution in midfield. And with Martin Odegaard now the club captain, it is unclear how Majer might fit in Mikel Arteta’s setup. But Arsenal might still pursue the Croat over a possible move soon.

Apart from Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also keen on signing Majer. So the 24-year-old will be one of the most highly sought-after players in the market in the coming transfer windows, and it will be interesting to see where his career takes him next.
