Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to sign 21-year-old Brazilian full-back Vanderson from AS Monaco.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Vanderson is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The 21-year-old AS Monaco full-back is also a target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana desperate to sign a right-back this summer.
Vanderson spent his formative years in Brazil with three clubs before graduating from Gremio’s academy a couple of years ago. The Brazilian full-back made his first-team debut for Imortal Tricolor in December 2020 before growing in stature at the Arena do Gremio.
His first move to Europe came calling earlier this year in January after spending around a year with Gremio’s first team as he joined AS Monaco. And the 21-year-old has become a regular for the Ligue 1 outfit, turning out four times thus far this season. But Vanderson’s stint with AS Monaco might not last long, with Barcelona and Manchester United keen on signing him this summer.
The interest from Barcelona stems from their inability to sign Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spanish full-back was the priority target to replace Dani Alves, who had departed from Camp Nou as a free agent in July. But Azpilicueta signed a contract extension with Chelsea, forcing Barcelona to identify alternatives in the market.
With Sergino Dest facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou amid interest from Manchester United, Barcelona will need to invest in a right-back this summer, making Vanderson a viable target. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to sign the 21-year-old AS Monaco defender.
The Red Devils need to sign a right-back this summer as Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been unconvincing in their respective stints at Old Trafford. Dest is one of the targets for Manchester United, but Vanderson is also an option worth considering, as he has shown promising signs in his early days as an AS Monaco player.
Barcelona and Manchester United are also competing for other mutual targets, including Malo Gusto and Thomas Meunier. But Vanderson might become the top target for both clubs this summer, and it will be interesting to see who prevails in the race to sign the 21-year-old Brazilian full-back.
