Manchester United are reportedly considering making a swoop for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, who is also a target for AC Milan.
According to Media Foot, Manchester United are mulling over the possibility of making a move for Borussia Monchengladbach and France forward Marcus Thuram in the ongoing transfer window.
Thuram has been with Gladbach since 2019 when he arrived from French club Guingamp and has grown into one of the most consistent forwards in the Bundesliga during this period. He has piled up a tally of 33 goals and 24 assists from 105 appearances for Die Fohlen and has already made a blazing start to the new season.
Indeed, Thuram has netted five goals and set up two more from just three matches in all competitions. The 25-year-old’s contract with the German giants runs out next year. His form and contract situation has put the four-time capped French international on the radars of several top clubs.
French side OGC Nice had shown an interest but have moved to other targets. There is some interest from La Liga side Villarreal, and now Manchester United and AC Milan have also joined the pursuit of Thuram.
Manchester United are in a tricky situation with regard to their attacking players this summer. Cristiano Ronaldo continues to push for an exit, and the club are reportedly open to letting the Portugal captain leave due to his attitude and behaviour following the defeat to Brentford this past weekend.
On top of that, Marcus Rashford is attracting serious interest from PSG, who are even readying a €70 million offer for the England star. Even if he stays, Rashford’s form and the struggles of Jadon Sancho warrant the addition of another forward before the transfer window slams shut. A move for Brazilian winger Antony seems to have come to a halt due to Ajax’s asking price.
So, Manchester United are scouring the market for options, having been linked with Sasa Kalajdzic, Benjamin Sesko and more recently Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha. Now Thuram has emerged as a target for the Red Devils. The 25-year-old can play anywhere across the frontline and has gathered experience at the top level during his stint with Gladbach.
However, Manchester United will have to stave off competition from AC Milan, who are also interested in signing Thuram. The Italian champions need to strengthen their frontline as Zlatan Ibrahimovic battles with injury problems while Olivier Giroud is not getting any younger.
Thuram’s contract situation means he could be available for a reasonable price this summer. What now remains to be seen is whether Manchester United decide to take a punt on the 25-year-old or decide to pursue other targets.
