Premier League heavyweights Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on veteran Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Casemiro is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. Representatives from the Premier League club are in Madrid to discuss a deal for the veteran Real Madrid midfielder this summer.
Casemiro has been a pivotal figure for Real Madrid since returning from FC Porto nearly a decade ago. The Brazilian international has forged a formidable midfield partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with the trio providing the foundation for the tremendous success achieved by Real Madrid in Europe and Spain.
The 30-year-old has made over 300 appearances thus far for Real Madrid while regularly chipping in with crucial goals and assists. Casemiro is now a veteran for Los Blancos, and his exploits have captured the attention of several clubs in the Premier League, including Manchester United.
The Red Devils have inexplicably failed to address the dire need for a new holding midfielder this summer, with Nemanja Matic leaving a gaping hole in the midfield department at Manchester United. Erik ten Hag has tried using Fred as a defensive midfielder, but the experiment has failed miserably in Manchester United’s two games thus far this season.
But hardly any holding midfielder has emerged on Manchester United’s radar, and fans might be relieved following the emergence of links with Casemiro. But while the veteran Real Madrid star might solve Manchester United’s woes in the middle of the park, signing him will likely be a tall order for the English giants.
Reputed Spanish journalist Lucas Navarette has claimed that Real Madrid will not consider selling Casemiro in the ongoing transfer window amid links with Manchester United. Those claims contradict reports from May, which claimed that Real Madrid might offload Casemiro for €50 million.

Nonetheless, it looks like signing the 30-year-old from Real Madrid might be beyond Manchester United, and they might have to realign their priorities. With less than two weeks left for the summer transfer window to shut down, the Red Devils now need to be decisive to bolster their ailing midfield unit.
