Serhou Guirassy is keen on joining Everton, as Rennes opens the doors for the striker to depart in the coming days.
According to L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, Everton are closing in on Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy as Frank Lampard eyes a new forward to strengthen his strikeforce. The doors are open for the Guinean forward to depart after the arrival of Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG.
Everton have been slow to act in this transfer window, as they are merely reacting to current issues with their squad. The loss of Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury will see the striker miss a few weeks of competitive action.
Add that to the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham, and Everton’s frontline has weakened considerably. Frank Lampard is keen to address the issue before the transfer window shuts. There were talks of a loan move for Che Adams, but the club have shifted their attention toward the French market once more.
It has been only a few days since Everton signed Amadou Onana from Lille, and they are ready to sign another Ligue 1 star. Rennes forward Serhou Guirassy is a player the Toffees are keen on bringing to Goodison Park as a cover for Calvert-Lewin.
While the Toffees are stepping up their efforts to sign Guirassy, they wanted a loan deal with Rennes, with an option to purchase. Everton have recently spent significantly signing Onana, which may restrict more outlay on new players. Hence they thought of a loan deal to sign Guirassy, although they could consider signing him permanently if he was to impress this season.
The door is wide open for Guirassy to leave Rennes after the club recently signed Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG. The youngster’s arrival certainly strengthens their forward line, which could tempt them to cash in on Guirassy. However, the French outfit have not clarified whether they want to sell him permanently or allow a temporary departure.
The forward reportedly has offers from other clubs but remains keen on joining Everton in this window. The French publication indicated talks are progressing between the clubs, and an agreement could materialise very soon.
Guirassy will be a decent addition for Everton, who are currently without a reliable striker with Salomon Rondon the only option after Calvert-Lewin’s injury. Anthony Gordon could lead the line against Aston Villa at the weekend as he did against Chelsea last weekend. Another bad result will intensify the pressure on Lampard to sign a new striker before the window shuts.
