Nacho has reportedly knocked back an approach from La Liga giants Sevilla over a summer move as he wants to retire at Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Nacho is the subject of interest from Sevilla over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. But the 32-year-old defender does not wish to join Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals as he wants to retire at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Nacho joined Real Madrid from AD Complutense over two decades ago, and he has come leaps and bounds since then. The veteran Spanish international progressed through the ranks rapidly at the club before becoming a dependable performer for Real Madrid Castilla.
Nacho’s stock has skyrocketed since making his first-team debut for Los Blancos in April 2011. And while he has not been the undisputed first-choice centre-back for Real Madrid, he has been a reliable defender for the Merengues in the last decade, racking up nearly 300 appearances while barely putting a foot wrong.
But Nacho has emerged on the radars of several European bigwigs in the last few years, with every summer transfer window paving the way for widespread speculation surrounding his future. The latest club to show interest in the Real Madrid defender hails from La Liga, with Sevilla keen on signing him.
The Andalusian giants have lost Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos this summer, leaving former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui short-handed in the central defensive unit. Sevilla’s search for a new central defender has not ended, with several players emerging on their radar this month.
Recent reports linked Sevilla with a move for Eric Bailly, with the Manchester United defender reportedly open to returning to La Liga by joining them. But Nacho is a more attractive target despite his advancing years as he has several years of experience in La Liga. Sevilla even approached the Real Madrid defender over a possible move this month.
But Nacho does not wish to move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as he wants to retire at Real Madrid. The Spaniard has thus turned down the approach from Sevilla and will likely continue with the reigning La Liga champions, even though Antonio Rudiger’s arrival might hamper his involvement.
