Serie A heavyweights SS Lazio have reportedly joined the race for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Giovani Lo Celso.
According to a report by Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Serie A behemoths Lazio have entered the race to land Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Giovani Lo Celso in the ongoing transfer window.
The Argentine international has struggled to make a name for himself at the north London club and spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Villarreal. While Lo Celso did well to impress at Estadio de La Cerámica, it has done little for his chances of playing a starring role at Tottenham.
The 26-year-old does not appear to feature in Antonio Conte’s plans, and a summer exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be on the cards. Villarreal continue to hold the initiative, but Lo Celso is also attracting interest from Serie A. Fiorentina are reportedly keeping tabs on the player, with Lazio also now in the mix.
Fabio Paratici is open to hauling Lo Celso out on loan with no obligation to buy. La Viola, for their part, are willing to take the Argentine playmaker on loan, with the option of making the deal permanent for €17 million. It represents excellent value for a player who appears to have rediscovered his best away from Tottenham.
Maurizio Sarri has impressed at Lazio but will need further reinforcements to take the Roman side to greater heights. Adding Lo Celso into the mix will make up for the potential loss of Luis Alberto, who has been linked with a move to Sevilla.
Serie A clubs were given a first-hand taste of Lo Celso’s ability in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Italy in the Finalissima. It thus makes sense that clubs are queuing up to land the Tottenham playmaker. The Serie A is also less physical in comparison to the Premier League, ensuring Lo Celso’s technical abilities can shine bright.
While the 26-year-old is not short of options, Villarreal are firmly in the driving seat. The player has already agreed to personal terms with the Yellow Submarines and is also well familiar with the Spanish club. Unless there is a late twist in the tale, Lazio will need to make an offer that neither Lo Celso nor Tottenham can refuse to secure his services.
