Juventus ramp up talks to sign Memphis Depay

Barcelona and Juventus have reportedly intensified their discussions over a possible summer move for 28-year-old Dutch forward Memphis Depay.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona and Juventus are making a final push over a move for Memphis Depay in the ongoing transfer window. The 28-year-old forward has already agreed to a two-year contract with the Serie A giants.

Memphis Depay will feel hard done by after finishing the 2021/22 season as Barcelona’s top scorer. The Dutch attacker, who joined Barcelona in a Bosman move last summer after running down his deal with Lyon, was the leading light for the Blaugrana in the first half of the campaign.

But Barcelona signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the January transfer window, pushing Depay down the pecking order at Camp Nou. And with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha arriving at the Catalan club this summer, the 28-year-old has fallen to the bottom of the pit. The player’s situation has captured the attention of Serie A giants Juventus.

Juventus’s transition has continued in the ongoing transfer window, with Alvaro Morata’s exit from the Allianz Stadium forcing them to dip their toes in the market for an attacking reinforcement. In addition, the Serie A giants have seen Paulo Dybala depart as a free agent, while Federico Chiesa is sidelined with a long-term injury.

Depay has thus emerged as a viable target for Juventus, with the Bianconeri reportedly discussing a summer move with Barcelona and the 28-year-old forward simultaneously. Recent reports have also claimed that personal terms will not be an issue for the Serie A bigwigs, with Depay likely to sign a two-year contract in Turin.

According to SPORT, Barcelona and Juventus have intensified their talks over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The two clubs are inclined to close the agreement for Depay, who has recently opened talks with the Blaugrana to negotiate his exit from Camp Nou.

The 28-year-old wants to leave Barcelona as a free agent after having his contract terminated, but the Catalan giants reportedly want to recoup €20 million from his sale. It will be interesting to see how much Juventus will shell out to secure the services of the Dutch attacker in the ongoing transfer window. According to the reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A giants are the favourites to land him.
