Newcastle United are reportedly set to submit an opening bid for Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos, who is valued at over €30 million by Benfica.
According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, Newcastle United are interested in Benfica star Goncalo Ramos and are set to launch a bid for the 21-year-old, who is also a target for Paris St-Germain and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It is no secret that Newcastle United are looking to improve their squad even further between now and the end of the window, with only Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett coming through the door thus far. The Magpies have been adamant in their desire to add another forward to their ranks to provide competition for talisman Callum Wilson.
Newcastle first missed out on French starlet Hugo Ekitike, who instead moved to PSG. The Magpies were then linked with the likes of Alexander Isak, Timo Werner and Armando Broja, but those links fizzled out quickly, with the Tyneside outfit reluctant to pay over the top for their priority targets.
However, it appears that they have another player in mind to step in, that player being Benfica’s highly-rated forward Goncalo Ramos. The 21-year-old versatile attacker is considered to be among the finest young forwards in Europe, with a host of top clubs said to be in the race for his signature.

Ramos has been in the Benfica setup since 2013, initially joining them as a 12-year-old. He has made a big impression at Estadio Da Luz over the past year, notching up eight goals and four assists and even finding the back of the net against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese forward has made a blistering start to the 2022/23 campaign, firing a hat-trick against Midtjylland in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. He has scored three goals and provided three assists in three appearances until now, taking charge up top after Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool in a blockbuster move earlier this summer.
Ramos has been recently courted by Paris Saint-Germain, who have yet to find an agreement with the Eagles. As for Premier League interest, Wolves are looking at him to expand their Portuguese contingent even more, while Barcelona are also said to be tracking Ramos. And as tweeted by Pedro Sepulveda, Newcastle United are now taking a keen interest in Ramos and are set to come forward with a formal proposal in the coming days.
Benfica would be willing to listen to offers exceeding €30 million which could open the door for Newcastle. Ramos would be an amazing addition for the Magpies, who have been desperately scouring for attacking reinforcements for the last couple of months without their efforts bearing fruits.
Ramos would fit the bill as a young, versatile, and a high ceiling singing for Eddie Howe’s side just like most other targets this summer. However, the lurking presence of PSG might make this one a difficult deal to pull off from Newcastle’s perspective. Whether Newcastle can beat the competition for the Portuguese forward’s signature in a potential €30 million deal remains to be seen.
