La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly want to sign 25-year-old Belgian playmaker Youri Tielemans from Premier League club Leicester City in 2023.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Youri Tielemans is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible Bosman move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Belgian playmaker has entered the final year of his contract with Premier League club Leicester City.
Youri Tielemans has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League since joining Leicester City from AS Monaco nearly three years ago. The Foxes initially signed the 25-year-old on a short-term loan deal before completing a permanent transfer in the following summer transfer window.
The Belgian international has featured 157 times thus far for Leicester, chipping in with 24 goals and 24 assists. But Tielemans faces an uncertain future at the King Power Stadium after entering the final year of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will need to lay down a succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Even though the two ageing midfield stalwarts continue to go from strength to strength for Los Blancos, it is worth remembering they are in the final phases of their respective careers. Modric will turn 37 in September, while Kroos is also well into his thirties.
The Spanish giants thus need to bring in a creative midfielder next summer as they look to phase out Modric and Kroos. Jude Bellingham is Real Madrid’s priority target for the 2023 summer transfer window. But with Liverpool also hot on the heels of the Borussia Dortmund sensation, the Merengues need to have a contingency plan in place.
Tielemans has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos monitoring his situation at Leicester City. Recent reports have claimed that the Foxes want to tie the 25-year-old to a new contract to secure a transfer fee from his departure next summer. And Real Madrid might not launch the offensive for him if he signs an extension with the Premier League club.
The Belgian playmaker is also a target for several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal. So the race to sign Tielemans should be hotly contested in the coming weeks and months, with Real Madrid considering a Bosman move for the 2023 summer transfer window.
