Liverpool will reportedly look to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Jude Bellingham by making a bid worth €100 million to Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Liverpool might look to jump the gun to sign Jude Bellingham in a deal worth €100 million. The Borussia Dortmund prodigy is also a target for Real Madrid, with the Bundesliga giants hoping to keep hold of him until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Jude Bellingham has become a hot property since first bursting onto the limelight at Birmingham City FC. The English wonderkid had emerged on the radars of several European bigwigs back then, with Manchester United one of his prominent suitors before Borussia Dortmund swooped him away instead.
The 19-year-old has made significant progress since joining Dortmund, turning out 90 times for the Bundesliga giants while chipping in with ten goals and 18 assists. Bellingham’s progress at the Signal Iduna Park has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid and Liverpool vying for his signature, albeit for the 2023 summer transfer window.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Modric, in particular, is a point of concern for Real Madrid, even though he remains one of their best players. But the veteran Croat will turn 37 next year, compelling Los Blancos to lay down a succession plan for him.
Bellingham has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with recent reports claiming they might even sign him this summer before loaning him back to Borussia Dortmund for the 2022/23 season to sweeten the deal. But Liverpool might also jump the gun in the race to sign Bellingham by submitting a bid worth €100 million.
Like Real Madrid, Liverpool will need to plan for a seamless transition to the next generation, with James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara on the wrong side of 30. Bellingham is thus an option worth considering for the Reds, with recent reports claiming they are in contact with the player.
While Liverpool might soon table an offer worth €100 million, Real Madrid could be ready to shell out a similar sum. So the race to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund continues to heat up, with the English international one of the most highly sought-after players in Europe.
