Tottenham are reportedly considering a loan move for Nicolo Zaniolo, who AS Roma could sacrifice after the arrival of Paulo Dybala.
According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham are considering making a loan approach for Nicolo Zaniolo, who could be allowed to leave AS Roma this summer. Spurs have been interested in the 23-year-old Italian international, who could be surplus to requirement after Paulo Dybala’s arrival.
Tottenham are considering signing a new attacker before the summer transfer window slams shut, with AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo firmly placed on their radar. The Italian international was in good form for Roma in the 2021/22 season and was considered central to how the club played in the final third.
He chipped in with eight goals and nine assists across all competitions last season, prompting Roma to slap a €50 million price tag on the 23-year-old . However, Zaniolo is a player on the rise, and the Serie A giants want total value from suitors interested in signing him.
There were talks of Juventus being eager to bring him to Turin, but the buzz has cooled off in the subsequent weeks. However, Tottenham have been interested and are ready to reignite the transfer talk. Zaniolo, considered central to Jose Mourinho’s attacking setup, is now in the zone of dispensable talents.
The arrival of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer from Juventus has compelled Mourinho to consider Zaniolo’s future. Both players occupy a similar position on the pitch, and the obvious choice could be the Argentine international.
Spurs are considering making a loan approach for Zaniolo, and Roma might consider an offer if it comes with a buy-option. However, the 23-year-old has two years left on his contract in the Italian capital, forcing Roma to consider bids deemed acceptable to recoup a significant sum of money.
Tottenham have already sold Steven Bergwijn, thus creating space to buy a new attacker. They have already signed Richarlison, but Antonio Conte would find a place for his compatriot in the squad. However, if Roma cannot agree on a loan move, Spurs might reconsider their chase, as signing the attacker permanently may be out of the question.
Zaniolo could be a good signing for Tottenham, as he could provide much-needed competition for Dejan Kulusevski on the right-hand side. Moreover, it will allow Conte to regularly rotate his attacking options with quality, as there could be plenty of game time for the final third operators.
