West Ham United ready to pay £16 million to sign Filip Kostic

Premier League club West Ham United are reportedly ready to pay £16 million to sign Serbian wide man Filip Kostic from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to a report by talkSPORT, West Ham United are keen to sign Eintracht Frankfurt left wing-back Filip Kostic and are prepared to match the German club’s asking price of £16 million. The Hammers have begun talks to discuss personal terms with the Serbian international but are yet to convince him.

Filip Kostic joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Hamburger in the 2019 summer transfer window and has since made 169 appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring 33 goals and providing 63 assists. He played a crucial role in their UEFA Europa League-winning campaign last season as he scored thrice and assisted six goals in the competition.

The 29-year-old is an assist machine and has created nine or more league goals in each of his four seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt. In fact, in the 2020/21 season, he was the second-highest assist provider in the Bundesliga, with 17 goals created in 30 matches.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has made Kostic a top target, but the east London club have so far not been able to convince the player to join them. The Serbian wide man is said to be eager to play UEFA Champions League football next season, which Eintracht Frankfurt can provide him.

West Ham United, on the other hand, qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League after finishing seventh in the Premier League last season. The Hammers are hoping that they will be able to convince the Serbian international as he shares his agent with the London club’s latest signing Gianluca Scamacca.

Kostic will provide competition to Aaron Creswell and add depth to the left-back spot which is much-needed since West Ham have European duties to fulfil as well. The Serbian international is still said to be in two minds about a move to the London Stadium but the club continue to try.

They are ready to meet the Bundesliga club’s demand of £16 million, signalling their intent that they wish to get Kostic on board this summer. It will be interesting to see if West Ham can land the 29-year-old wide man from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer.
