Everton have agreed personal terms with Maxwel Cornet, although they remain some way apart from agreeing a transfer fee with Burnley.
According to But! Football Club, via Sport Witness, Everton have gotten closer to bringing Maxwel Cornet to Goodison Park after agreeing on personal terms with the player. However, the Toffees are yet to convince Burnley on the fee.
Maxwel Cornet surprised a few by joining Burnley last summer when there was interest from clubs higher up the table. The Ivorian enjoyed a positive debut campaign in England, but his nine goals in 26 games in the league could not help the Clarets avoid relegation.
Since Burnley’s relegation, Cornet has become one of the most sought-after names among clubs in the Premier League. Everton have been negotiating a transfer with Burnley for the 25-year-old, who has a €21 million release clause in his contract. The Toffees have matched the price with their latest offer, which guarantees €17 million in fixed payments with the rest in variables.
Burnley are seeking more in the fixed part and stalling on the move so far. Despite that, Everton are considered the frontrunners for the capture of Cornet, amidst interest from Fulham.
Everton have taken the next steps in the pursuit by agreeing personal terms with the attacker. The Toffees have made Cornet a contract offer worth €80,000 per week on a five-year deal, with the player very happy with the proposal.
The operation could move to its next level when Everton agrees on a fee with Burnley. The Toffees set to launch another offer to please those in charge of the Clarets.
Frank Lampard hopes to add Cornet, which will follow up on their move for Dwight McNeil, who recently moved to Goodison Park from Turf Moor. The Ivorian would be an excellent addition to their ranks, which desperately needs reinforcements after the departure of Richarlison to Tottenham.
Cornet is one of the most sought-after talents among the Premier League clubs this summer, and Everton have been intelligent enough to agree personal terms with him. Now they need to reach an agreement with Burnley over a transfer fee.
