Barcelona reach verbal agreement with Sevilla for Jules Kounde

Barcelona and Sevilla have reportedly verbally agreed to the transfer of Jules Kounde, who will sign a €6 million-a-year contract at Camp Nou.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Sevilla have reached a verbal agreement over a move for Jules Kounde in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old French international will reportedly sign a contract worth €6 million per year after accepting the personal terms on offer from the Blaugrana last week.

The long-dragging Jules Kounde transfer saga has finally reached the end of the line. The player has been a hot property in the transfer market for well over a year, but he will leave Sevilla for good this summer after a battle between Chelsea and Barcelona for his services.

Chelsea seemed to have initially won the race to sign Kounde, who was on the verge of becoming their third signing of the summer transfer window. But the Blues were out of the equation once Barcelona hijacked their move and quickly reached an agreement in principle with Sevilla for the 23-year-old’s transfer.

Kounde has also reportedly been in favour of joining Barcelona instead of Chelsea, with recent reports claiming that he has accepted the offer of a four-year contract from Barcelona. And while Chelsea thought about submitting a new bid to sign the French international, they threw in the towel after realising they would not beat Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Kounde’s contract with Barcelona will be worth €6 million per year, meaning he was ready to accept lower wages from the Blaugrana instead of Chelsea. The west Londoners thus need to set their sights on alternatives for the 23-year-old French international.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will secure the services of a player who should be a solid long-term successor for Gerard Pique. And Xavi Hernandez will hope that the Sevilla defender and Ronald Araujo forge a solid central defensive partnership in the 2022/23 season, making it the base for a successful campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano, while Barcelona and Sevilla have verbally agreed to a move for the 23-year-old French international, some minor details are yet to be ironed out. But Kounde should ideally be unveiled as a new Barcelona player in the coming days, with Xavi having most of his desired squad at his disposal before the 2022/23 season begins.
