Borja Mayoral is on the verge of completing a switch within La Liga, with Getafe reportedly set to sign the Real Madrid forward in a deal worth €10 million.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Borja Mayoral will leave Real Madrid on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions and Getafe have reached an agreement in principle over a move worth €10 million for the Spanish forward.
Borja Mayoral joined Real Madrid as a ten-year-old in 2007, arriving from another Madrid-based club, Agrupacion Deportiva Parla. But despite being at the Spanish outfit for nearly a decade and a half, the 25-year-old has never established a foothold in the first-team level following his senior debut in October 2015.
Instead of becoming a first-team regular, Mayoral has had to settle with embarking on four loan spells. The Spanish forward’s most fruitful stint away from Real Madrid came with Levante between 2018 and 2020, where he featured regularly and progressed considerably.
In the past year, the Spaniard has represented AS Roma and Getafe, and his spell in the second half of the 2021/22 season with the Azulones helped him regain his lost confidence. And Getafe will likely sign the Real Madrid forward permanently after recently submitting an offer to secure his services.
The interest from Getafe was hardly surprising, considering the 25-year-old settled down in the first-team squad seamlessly in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign. And with Jaime Mata well into his thirties, Quique Sanchez Flores has been keen on getting in a younger striker, making Mayoral a viable target.
Real Madrid wanted a suitor to cough up €10 million to secure the services of the Spanish forward, and the Azulones have readily matched the asking price. According to MARCA, the reigning La Liga champions and Getafe have reached an agreement in principle over a €10 million deal.
The three parties only have to sort out the finer details of the transfer, post which Mayoral will complete the switch across Madrid to join another La Liga club in Getafe. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will not enter the market for a replacement, with Juanmi Latasa likely to earn a promotion to the first-team squad.
