David Moyes is reportedly looking at Filip Kostic as an alternative to David Raum, with West Ham United keen on signing a new left-back.
According to The Sun, West Ham United have submitted an offer for Filip Kostic, as David Moyes seeks a new option at left-back. The 29-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt wide man could be a good option after the Hammers backed away from a deal for David Raum.
West Ham United have been steady in this window as they continue to scour the market for viable options to strengthen the first team. Having already signed Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, and Flynn Downes until now, a new left-back, wide attacker, and midfielder could be David Moyes’s next priorities.
After a disappointing end to the season, where Moyes could only steer West Ham to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League, the Hammers are keen on bringing in the right players to shore up their options. Among the other targets, a new left-back has been considered important.
Additionally, Aguerd’s injury during pre-season could keep the centre-back out for two months, which would require temporary cover. Aaron Cresswell, being their primary left-back, can also play centrally. Hence targetting a new left-sided full-back is important for West Ham to allow Moyes a change in style whenever he decides to shift to a back three.
Whenever Moyes shuffled his formation last season, there were no quality options at left wing-back, considering Cresswell usually played as a left-sided centre-back. However, this problem could be solved by signing a player like Filip Kostic.
The Eintracht Frankfurt wide man has been on the radars of big clubs like Chelsea before, but only West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing the 29-year-old at the moment. Moyes wanted to bring in David Raum from Hoffenheim as the priority signing at left-back. But the German international is set to move across the Bundesliga to RB Leipzig instead.
Hence, the Hammers have switched focus to Kostic, who has just a year left on his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt. West Ham have reportedly submitted an offer to Frankfurt to prise Kostic away from the club. Whether the 29-year-old wide man is open to joining the Hammers remains in question, although a move to London and the Premier League could be quite appealing.
Kostic has primarily played as a left winger for most of his career, although he has been very good as a wing-back. There is a belief he could slot in as a left-back and provide ample competition for Cresswell next season. Frankfurt’s demands for selling Kostic remain unknown, but West Ham will be hoping to get the 29-year-old at a knocked-down price from the Bundesliga club.
