Arsenal have reopened talks with Juventus for Arthur Melo after failing to sign the Brazilian midfielder in January.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Arsenal have reignited their interest in Arthur Melo and have reopened talks with Juventus for the midfielder. The Brazilian is reportedly free to leave the club, and the Gunners could turn back their attention after failing to sign him in January.
Arsenal’s search for a new midfielder continues as Mikel Arteta juggles between the multiple choices in front of him. Arthur Melo’s name is not new for the Spanish manager, having been interested in signing the Brazilian in January.
Juventus could not agree to Arsenal’s loan terms back in January as they wanted a longer deal for the midfielder. There was a reluctance to reach an agreement and Arthur remained in Turin for the rest of the season. The Serie A giants are now attempting to offload the Brazilian, with many clubs reportedly keen.
Having signed Paul Pogba on a free transfer from Manchester United, Massimiliano Allegri seemingly has plenty of midfield options heading into next season. They want to sell Arthur and teammate Adrien Rabiot in this window.
Barcelona considered re-signing the Brazilian and could make an approach before the window shuts. As things stand, Arsenal have reportedly reopened talks with Juventus to make another attempt at Arthur. The Gunners need a player capable of fitting on the left side of their midfield setup, and the Brazilian certainly is suitable.
The Gunners are linked with Youri Tielemans, although they have not made a concrete offer to Leicester City yet. Lyon star Lucas Paqueta is also of interest, but his colossal asking price could complicate a chase. Hence, Arsenal could have turned their attention to Arthur, considering he could be a cheaper alternative.
Juventus will look to get the best value from Arsenal if their interest is genuine. However, Arsenal are closing in on Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, who is capable of playing in the midfield position.
As things stand, the story of Arthur could be a rumour from the Italian media. The fact that Arsenal need a new midfielder is seeing them linked with players from many leagues. For now, the Gunners will likely look to complete a deal for Zinchenko and probably sign a new wide attacker.
As for a new midfielder, they might enter the market again in the latter stages, with Tielemans believed to be their top target. Arthur was undoubtedly a significant option in January, but their reluctance to meet with Juventus’ terms showed the Gunners might not be very serious about the Brazilian after all.
