West Ham are exploring the possibility to sign Bournemouth starlet Jordan Zemura this summer.
According to Talksport, West Ham United have set their sights on Jordan Zemura. The Londoners are currently in the market for a new left-back, who can offer competition to Aaron Cresswell ahead of the new season. Coach David Moyes particularly favours young legs that can settle in effortlessly into his direct approach.
Jordan Zemura has been identified as the ideal candidate as he is young and has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence over the past 12 months. Indeed, the young left-back was one of the rising stars in the Championship last season, racking up 33 league appearances and scoring three goals.
Zemura impressed the onlookers with his athleticism and pace out wide. His overall performances were integral in helping Bournemouth seal their promotion back to the top flight. And quite naturally, the youngster has now found himself in the crosshairs of established Premier League clubs such as West Ham.
The Hammers are currently in the midst of a planned squad reinforcement as David Moyes looks to shore up his options in nearly every position and mount a bid to finish inside the top four.
While the club have done well to secure the signing of Nayef Aguerd, Moyes believes his side have a weakness in the left-back position. Aaron Cresswell is often relied upon heavily while Arthur Masuaku is not exactly a trusted first-team option. As such, West Ham are targeting a move for Zemura.
As mentioned earlier, the young left-back has raised many eyebrows with his athleticism on the flanks. It could make him an ideal asset for Moyes’s direct brand of football that requires a lot of athleticism and pace. Further, the 22-year-old is quite capable when it comes to his attacking output, which may be useful in his forays down the flanks.
If Zemura can further improve his crossing, he could prove to be quite an asset for West Ham, who are tipped to sign tall Italian frontman Gianluca Scamacca. Having a strong target man and an electric full-back could be just the combination West Ham need in order to get into the top four next season.
However, the Londoners can expect strong resistance from Bournemouth in their quest to sign Zemura. With the player only having a year left on his contract, the Cherries could look to offer him a new deal in an attempt to retain his services for the summer. They had already extended his contract in March, so it will be interesting to see whether the youngster is open to another new deal at AFC Bournemouth.
