La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly ready to sell 25-year-old forward Borja Mayoral this summer, slapping a €10 million price tag on him.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Borja Mayoral might not have a long-term future at Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are prepared to cash in on the 25-year-old forward and have slapped a €10 million price tag on him.
Borja Mayoral started his youth career with Madrid-based Agrupacion Deportiva Parla before joining Real Madrid as a ten-year-old in 2007. The Spanish striker subsequently progressed through the ranks at the Spanish club before making his first-team debut in October 2015, aged 18.
But Mayoral has spent only one full season with Real Madrid, scoring seven goals in 24 outings in the 2017/18 season. The 25-year-old has had to suffice with playing regularly while on loan away from Real Madrid, spending a campaign with VfL Wolfsburg before joining Levante and AS Roma on two-year deals between 2018 and 2022.
But Mayoral’s loan stint with Roma ended prematurely, as Jose Mourinho did not fancy him much last season. So the Spaniard left the Serie A giants after 18 months before Real Madrid hauled him off on another temporary spell, this time to Getafe, where he was a regular fixture for the Madrilenian outfit.
The 25-year-old turned out 18 times for Getafe, scoring six goals before returning to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Mayoral’s exploits at Getafe have earned him interest over a permanent move from the Azulones, with Celta Vigo also keen on securing his services. But recent reports had suggested that Real Madrid might keep him in the first-team squad.
With Luka Jovic joining Fiorentina and Mariano Diaz facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid thought about keeping Mayoral as Karim Benzema’s backup. The player, for his part, is also ready to remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window. But the Spanish giants have slapped a €10 million price tag on him.
Apart from Getafe and Celta Vigo, Bologna and Monza are also keen on signing Mayoral from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. And with the 25-year-old forward in the final year of his contract, a €10 million price tag seems reasonable. But it will be interesting to see if Mayoral fights to remain at Real Madrid or decides to leave permanently this summer.
