La Liga giants Sevilla have reportedly expressed the desire to re-sign Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon this summer.
According to Daily Mail, Sevilla are exploring the possibility to bring back Sergio Reguilon. The Spanish giants are in the market for a new left-back this summer, with the Tottenham Hotspur starlet emerging as an ideal option. The player has played for them in the past and could be open to a return to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Formerly of Real Madrid, Reguilon donned the Sevilla kit during the 2019/20 campaign. In that corresponding season, the Spaniard had emerged as one of the best left-backs in La Liga, eventually earning a big-money move to Tottenham in the summer of 2020.
However, after enjoying a promising start to his life in north London, Reguilon struggled to maintain his high level of performance. He appeared far too inconsistent, even though the lack of a proper alternative in the Tottenham squad, granted him regular game-time in England.
Under the leadership of Conte, Reguilon has been far from impressive. He has struggled to offer the quality out wide and has looked quite shaky defensively. It has left Conte frustrated with the Spaniard, with the Tottenham coach ultimately bringing in Ivan Perisic earlier in the summer, in an attempt to resolve the issue at left wing-back.
The addition of Perisic should leave Reguilon trailing in the pecking order, thus opening up the exit route for the fullback. A return to Sevilla, to that end, appears to be a glowing prospect as he looks to revive his career after a couple of dismal seasons in the Premier League.
If his past performances in La Liga are anything to go by, it is fair to assume the 25-year-old tends to thrive in the technical nature of Spanish football. He is someone who can be quite brilliant in operating in tight spaces and rotating possession in the final third, rather than becoming a part of an aggressive and direct style of play.
As such, Reguilon certainly would not mind returning to Sevilla, with Tottenham, too, keen on offloading the Spanish international in an attempt to generate additional transfer revenue. The Lilywhites have appeared quite proactive in the market so far and it won’t be surprising to see them sign a long-term replacement, in the event of Reguilon’s departure.
