Arsenal have reportedly made a €7 million offer to Benfica for Spanish left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, whose arrival could signal the end for Nuno Tavares.
According to A Bola, Arsenal have submitted a €7 million offer for Alejandro Grimaldo, with Benfica resigned to losing the left-back for a knockdown price. The Spaniard has entered the last year of his deal and refused to commit to a new contract at the Portuguese club.
Arsenal fans are somewhat happy with the club’s business in the summer transfer window, although they remain puzzled about their definitive target list. Plenty of confusion is rising among the fanbase as the Gunners continue targeting different profile of players.
The arrival of Fabio Vieira happened out of the blue, and supporters expect many such moves to materialise. Even Fabrizio Romano claimed Arsenal are working on several deals, but the details are yet to come out in the open.
They most recently signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City and they continue to work on getting their targets signed up despite suffering setbacks in pursuits of Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez. From what has been reported, Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo is Arsenal’s next target.
The Spanish left-back has entered the last year of his deal at Benfica, and the Portuguese club may be forced to accept a cut-price fee for the left-back. Arsenal have reportedly bid €7 million to secure the player’s services, although the Benfica have yet to respond.
There is a growing feeling a move could be imminent, and Grimaldo will soon be an Arsenal player. He is expected to play up to Kieran Tierney, although the Scotland international’s recent injury record offers hope for Grimaldo to play many games. The Spaniard’s potential arrival may signal a move away from the Emirates for Nuno Tavares.
Arsenal are reportedly considering the future of the Portuguese left-back after a mixed bag of a season. Tavares also arrived from Benfica last summer and put in some good displays early in the season. But after sitting on the bench for a considerable period, he suffered from a loss of confidence, which tended to show in his performances.
With growing interest from Marseille, Real Sociedad, and Atalanta, Arsenal could consider a loan move. Reports have claimed Arsenal could be seeking €40 million to sell Tavares outright, although no club in the current market, especially those interested in him, are likely to pay up. However, the arrival of Grimaldo could mean a temporary end for Tavares, who may go out to gain further experience.
As for Grimaldo, he could be the experienced backup to Tierney that Arteta needs. The Gunners suffered last season without the presence of a player such as the Spaniard. Moreover, for €7 million, the 26-year-old seems like an absolute bargain given the current market status.
