Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly been put off by Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes’s price tag.
According to L’Equipe, Manchester United have shown interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Leandro Paredes in the summer transfer. However, the Red Devils have been put off by the French giants’ €35 million price tag.
Paredes is reportedly one of the players PSG are willing to sell this summer but only for the right price. The Argentine international has two years left on his current contract with the French club but has fallen down the pecking order recently.
Paredes joined PSG from Zenit St. Petersburg in the 2019 January transfer window but has since failed to cement a starting spot. The 28-year-old has made a total of 113 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, but most of them have come from the bench.
In the recently-concluded season, Paredes played 22 matches for PSG across all competitions, scoring once and assisting two goals. With the presence of the likes of Danilo Pereira, Marco Verratti, Vitinha, Georginio Wijnaldum, Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herrera in the central midfield, the club have deemed the former AS Roma midfielder surplus to requirements.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have previously made enquiries to PSG about the player, and Paredes has claimed that he wants to play for Real Madrid. However, Manchester United have emerged as potential suitors, although they are not willing to match PSG’s asking price.
The Red Devils are eager to strengthen their midfield and have made Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong their top target. But Manchester United will still need a more defensive-minded midfielder to pair the Dutchman with, and Paredes has been identified as one option.
However, PSG’s €35 million asking price has put them off. The report claims Manchester United walked out of the discussion about a possible deal for Paredes after learning the club’s valuation of the Argentine midfielder. It is unclear whether they will return for him if PSG lower their asking price. On the other hand, the Parisians are determined to get the best possible offer for the players they wish to offload this summer.
